Dead Nation XML Feed

I was wondering if it is possible to view the XML feed from a dead nation?
I suppose not because the direct XML NS page won't do it, but I still must ask. If not, I was wondering if this is something that could be implemented.

Cheerio :)

The game structure doesn't immediately support this request, so from a technical standpoint I'd say it's unlikely.

From a Gameplay perspective it makes even less sense. The nation has, from a Gameplay perspective, sunk into the sea. It doesn't exist, so why should it have governmental stats?

If it's your nation, raise it. XML will then work. If it's somebody else's, it's irrelevant what its stats are.

Well I was writing an NSwiki article for a fallen nation and someone suggested XML feeds to write a detailed article.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Well still off topic. I think its obvious that the majority of NSers would be unaffected negatively by these unknown stats and formulas being released. How startling can they be!? N00bs typically don't know about the official XML feeds anyway to be turned off by then. If someone sticks with NationStates for a year or more, I think they've shown their commitment to see some extra goodies.

I moved this post from the Influence thread. Not sure where it belonged, but the XML reference may me think it should be here.

Please specify what "unknown stats and formulas" you are talking about.

If you're talking about Influence formulas, we don't give out the back end code because it turns NS from a game of guesswork and speculation into an exercise of number crunching manipulation. Max prefers to keep formulas hidden.
If you're talking about XML values, I already explained that there are good technical & gameplay reasons why we can't run those feeds.
If you're talking about something else, you need to make your point more clearly.

Well, thanks for taking the time to move the post. Sorry but I had never heard of any technical reasons why the other data can't be shown, I've just heard the same story over and over again about Max Barry and his moderator crew deciding the stats would take away from the fun of the game, It's just my opinion that anyone who has stuck with NS for a long time as many of have, can handle some more in-depth stats.

They can. By looking at the XML feeds. How do you think calculators like NSEconomy and NStracker work? They access the XML data from nations and regions to provide a more in-depth analysis of what the game engine tells you; something that was developed by very devoted and longtime players.

The point you're seeming to miss is that you can't access the XML feeds of nations that have CTEd. There's no reason to have access to this data, because the nation no longer exists- why would it have an XML feed anyway, if it's dead?

If you're writing NSwiki articles, check out some of the featured article pages on ideas for what to do, or look at memorial pages for deceased nations to get a handle on what you should do; if you've got any questions you can ask me, or any of the sysops and administrators over on the wiki.

I've just heard the same story over and over again about Max Barry and his moderator crewJust Max. The Moderators have nothing to do with this policy. We may agree with him, but it was his choice and his alone. And since it's his game, it's unlikely to change.

I know. But there is some data supposedly that is held back. Seems to me, if you want people to refrain from doing something like being a stats wank, don't ban it, or in this case hide it away. But I totally understand its Max's decision, can you forgive a stubborn stats wank like myself for trying?

By the way, the data I was trying to figure out was how the game calculates the fishing industry, if anyone has an idea.
