I just went to the NS2 website to check and see if there were any updates as I do every day and NS2 is open! That means the wait is finally over.

I received an email from nationstates after reserving my nation name, they gave me a link to confirm the registration, but the link doesn't work. :(

I don't know how to help you. :) Maybe one of the admin will see this thread.
I can't figure out what to do because I don't have a beta key either. Maybe we're not supposed to?

this will learn you all for not reserving your beta keys
though to keep the emoticon going: NS2 doesn't have a catchy name :(

Well I didn't reserve a beta key because I wanted to use my old nation, Greston, and get rid of the "new" part.

From the NS2 Weblog:
August 18, 2008
Exciting News!
Today we have some very exciting new to announce to you all - the commencement of the Invite Only stage of NationStates 2. It's still in Beta so there are a couple of features missing and some elements that we're still working on, but we'd like to get you started in the game so that you can help us with the final stages.
From all the thousands of Beta applicants, a random 500 of you have been selected for this first stage, so be sure to check your inbox later tonight to see if you are one of the lucky ones!
If you are not lucky initially there is however no need to despair, as we will be inviting more and more of you into the game over the weeks to come as the game ramps up to going fully open and live.

*cries* This is terrible. Unless we're invited to participate in the Beta, the wait continues.

Call To Power, as far as I know, I wasn't asked to reserve a beta key.
At any rate, right now NS2 will be played by invitation only, according to the FAQ. But I'm assuming everyone who reserved their nations will be invited to participate as the beta process continues. Right?

Yeah.
At least we can look around the game some. Although right now there's not a whole lot to see in terms of nations and alliances.

Hey, on the FAQ, it says you can "be an ambassador (get extra features)" by "supporting the game," presumably monetarily. Now this I'm not thrilled about...
It's getting closer. I can't wait until it's open for all.

I tried reserving a name, but it didn't work. So phut on them.

Hey everyone
Couple of quick things:
1. We had some problems with the nation name reservation, that should be all fixed now but please remember to check your mail for the confirmation link as well (some people forgot to do this, hence it not working in that case).
2. More Beta keys will be going out soon (very soon). Just bear with us as we ramp up.

Just FYI, folks - despite the fact that he's got Newbie under his name, DylanC is actually a high muckity-muck at OMAC, so this is actually an Official Communique.
OMG!
I got invited! WOOT!!!!!!!
I also have the ability to give invites to other NS1 players??? :O EDIT: Well, that's what the thing said, but it doesn't appear to be so...
Leistung, that option has been said over and over for the past two months man. Don't worry, it's not too bad. Let's just hope it's a one time fee and not monthly, supposedly, there's something called Jennifer's too, that gives you some of the features of ambassador, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you get it by buying Jennifer Government.
Also, the Beta Keys are being handed out to people who subscribed to NS2, like it was stated earlier in the blog.

This sucks because not only do you have to pay for the full edition of ns2 its a monthly payment. Like what about us teenagers who have no money?

I've Been Invited Too! :d
Hey maraque, any chance you could invite poor little me?
And also, you don't HAVE to pay for ns2.
AAAAAAH, I want an invitation to please!
I don't think I can invite anyone....
I've also tried that link that was sent to me. But it also doesn't work! so I don't wha the heck is going! So much for the wait
Lame. It said I'd be able to send invites but it I don't see how. Lying thing!
Hmm, maybe it means you can send invites to raise awareness?
Or my eyes were just deceiving me. O_o
Copy-paste the message that said you could post invites.
Secondly, as the holder of a very rare NS2
invite, you'll also be given additional invites which you can bestow
upon your fellow NS1 players. This will appear in the navigation menu
of your NS2 nation so keep an eye on it!
Unless I'm reading into that wrong? It's in the very E-mail I received.

I never got my confirmation email for this account, and I've tried resending the name reservation request form, but it says my nation name is already reserved. Is there a way to resend my confirmation email? I've checked both my inbox and spam box and have received nothing.
Hmm, Maraque, That seems interesting, I guess we'll have to wait until Frisbeeteria or someone reads that.

maybe it's a typo, it could be keep an eye OUT FOR it. It may be that in the last bit of NS2 closed beta you can invite. Well I should get my invite soon, I subscribed a months ago.
True... I missed that critical bit of words there.

Try visiting the NationStates 2 forums. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1554) You'll have better luck there.

I believe the first round of beta testers will gain the ability to invite a limited number of additional people in the near future (possibly next week). But as of right now, they can't invite anyone: the beta is limited to the initial random selection.

I'm just quoting this because I, too, am having the same problem.
Lydias, I'm not sure if you fixed the issue specifically for Talisinium or for everyone, but I've been having the same problem. I just tried to resend my validation email, but got the same message.
There are a couple of things to check, but if you have not received one for any reason, don't worry as we will be re-issuing them to those that did not respond.
Could it still be stuck in a spam folder somewhere?
If you email provider requests it, have you added our email as a safe address?
I've checked my spam/trash folders and my email provider doesn't require me to add safe addresses. I'll just wait for the re-issue. Thanks, Lydias.

It's probably more disappointing that people who have been playing for 5 years plus don't get any benefits whatsoever, but in the interests of actually making a profit out of NS2, it's probably for the best.
Anyway, can't wait to play NS2, even if I don't get in the beta. Question: can we use paypal to pay for ambassador, or is it credit card only?
Also: Teenagers stop whining. Five dollars is a pitiful amount to pay for a game. If you are a teenager and don't have five dollars spare a month then either get a job or get more generous parents :P

Just because it worked that way in NS1 doesn't necessarily mean it works that way in NS2.
It's quite possible that in-game events such as issues or resource constraints could affect your nation size. It's possible that they could have periodic restarts to give everyone a level playing field. It's possible that war or famine will cause massive deaths across your new nations. There are endless possibilities, and they don't all have to be present on day one.
I'd don't know if any of that is true or even possible, but my point is that you don't know it's NOT true. Be patient. Watch and learn.

Oh, so I went out for a smoke and I started thinking about this whole cost thing.
Really, people should shut up about it. Max Barry does something that most of NS1 (and therefore presumably NS2) do not do: he works to put food on the plate of his wife and relatively new born child (unless he has more than one). He simultaneously does something that the vast majority of NS1 have not done and will not do: he has paid out of his own pocket for the construction and maintenance of not just one, but two, massively multiplayer online games. Not only does he do that, but he gives them to anyone who cares to register, for free, despite the fact that he has a family to feed and care for. For five dollars - which in my country, a high school student can earn in half an hours unskilled labour - you are giving what is probably only a fraction of the cost of what he has paid for people to construct two games, to add additional content on a fairly regular basis, for bandwidth for not just these games but also their huge forums, all of which he has provided, to you, for no charge whatsoever. Money does not come out of nowhere. The money so far has come from his own pocket and therefore from his own labour, so there should be no complaints whatsoever about paying a minute sum for what, I have been told by a beta player, is no physically competitive advantage over other players.
If you are unhappy about this then it is clearly you who are the selfish person in this transaction, and not the person who is giving you something for free out of his own pocket.
There are a couple of things to check, but if you have not received one for any reason, don't worry as we will be re-issuing them to those that did not respond.

Thanks, Lydias. I'll just keep looking then. I normally receive notifications from the forum boards just fine; is that the e-mail address I should have down as safe?

Does this mean I can't join NS2?
"The world contains 75,750 nations in 8,948 regions." The Beta consists of 500 randomly chosen names, who each have one additional invite to hand out.
By my calculations, that leaves ... mumble ... grunt ... carry the 3 ... 74,750 nations that haven't yet been asked or allowed to join.
You might get an invitation sometime, assuming you also signed up for the Beta when the NS2 Blog suggested you do so. Otherwise, you can join when we go to full Production Status like everyone else.
