On 7 - 8 August, 2008, several participants in the NS forums reported getting ping timeouts for several hours when trying to browse the website.
What happened, and how did the good and valiant sysops, etc. restore our vital service?

I experienced this as well, I believe it was a total forum outage. I don't know what happened, but I am glad to see the forums back up.

There was an unspecified error in the site that happened after normal UK business hours. A Jolt admin had to make a physical site visit to the datacenter the next morning to restore service. All Jolt forums were down, possibly other services as well.
