System for calculation of size, shape and regions of nations?

Why hello thar.

I'm particularly new to NationStates, I have a nation of 93 Million, and I've been pondering an issue.

What if there was a program/browser based thingy that helped people figure out the size, shape, and if it had fill in the blank things for cities? It would help massively with figuring out what your Capital City can be named, as well as Military purposes. I.E. Borders, Neighboring countries, where certain military camps/jails/offices there are. It could also help with geographical studying, because if there is a conflict within one's nation, certain missions with certain difficulties depending on the Geographical location (Mountains, Plains, etc.) can take place.

Another reason is if you want states/provinces/territories in your country, you could make up the size/shape of them. You know, just so you can figure out where you want things, and a place where you can save your progress on conflicts, etc.

I know this is probably a lot to ask for, but it could help with nations trying to develop a military, like locations of base camps or something.

Greetings,

Generally speaking, regions interested in shaping their geography normally draw a map and decide nation sizes based on population size, the player's idea of what his or her nation is like, or at random. Since this is an open role-play in which the player can decide the geography of the nation played, its culture, its cities and what not then a browser based application working off a template doesn't really fit in [unless the player is too lazy to do it him or herself; it would be an option, at least]. For example, my region [Greater Dienstad] has a map (http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i291/Macabees/map-1-1.jpg), drawn by myself - generally, the nation requests where he or she wants to be, or I just put the nation wherever if the player doesn't really have a specific place in mind. Based on this, you can make national maps individually and be as detailed as you'd like - for example, this (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5821/macabeemap7hd.gif) is my political map [with all the provinces], although admittedly it's out of date.

You can make it as detailed as you'd like, or make maps with different information on each map; e.g. a political map, a map of military bases, a topographic map, et cetera. During the War of Golden Succession I simply made maps of the individual regions that were relevant to the post, added the topography and then perhaps some units or the general location of units and what not and then illustrated my movements to make my posts clearer [thousands of words are difficult to decipher and the map made it more direct].

I hope this helped make things clearer, unless I totally missed what you said,

- Mac

There are (or used to be) map making programs on the net. Some made rudimentary and ugly maps, others were much more sophisticated. Search around NationStates and International Incidents - you'll see some people with nice maps. Ask them (by TG) how they made them.

It won't be appearing as a feature in NS1, if that's what you're asking.

Frisbeeteria, if this is againt the rules ... I apologize. But, the request forum (http://z13.invisionfree.com/LineartInc/index.php?showforum=41) on Lineartinc is a good place to request a map, if you'd like [the likelyhood of having the request answered, OTOH, varies from day to day]. You, unfortunately, have to register to post and read the forum.
