I noticed a problem with national animals. I am the leader of Federation of Scientific Insight, and I chose the Masticore as my national animal (essentially a mechanized mix between a lion and a scorpion). This fictional animal cannot be eaten, and cannot go extinct (like they claim to be teetering on due to deforestation in my country). There should be an option to declare your national animal an imaginary one, which would opt you out of issues and things that would be impossible on anything other than a real animal.

Not gonna happen for imaginary animals, aquatic animals, avians, human races, or any of the other possible choices. It's been raised about a blue million times, and it's just not practical to code for all the potential choices.
Besides, one of the Five Star restaurants in Frisbeeteria makes a fine Manticore Marsala. They're a little tough to fillet properly, but delicious when properly prepared.

Yeah, If you have carbide tipped teeth and a stomach capable of extracting chemical energy from steel. In which case, you are a better man than I.
Anyway, my suggestion is to have an option to opt out of any effects your national animal will have on the country. Make it for all intents and purposes be kind of like your national motto, where it is just some further information about your nation.
