Hello. I apologize if this issue has arisen before, but I did my best to look through hundreds of threads to see if anyone else had brought it up.

My problem is this: I've been playing NationStates for a little more than five years, and early on my nation was communist, with a 100% tax rate. However, for the past few years I've been trying to take it in a more democratic, small-government direction, with much-reduced taxes. Anyhow, despite voting to reduce taxes at every possible opportunity and dismissing all issues that could conceivably keep taxes high, my tax rate is still at 100%. I've literally been doing this for years, to no avail.

So what's the deal? Is my tax rate variable higher than 100 or something? Will it take me ten years to wear it down to something below 100%? Or is there some bug that will see to it that my taxes never change?

I've heard of a few other people in my region having this issue, and I'd appreciate it if you folks could tell us anything.

From my old nation, with a 100% tax rate, I had the same problem.

There is actually an issue that comes up only for nations with a full tax rate, giving you the option the reduce it or not. Maybe you should wait for that issue? Or make a new nation...

I actually asked this question a few months ago, and the answer I received was that the tax rate can go infinitely above 100% and to take it down, you have to lower the tax rate by that same amount. If you've really been doing it for years, it might be a bug, but if you first raised it for many years, it could be reasonable. I'm in a somewhat similar situation at the moment.

There's also something I call "population inertia". It's much easier to manipulate small numbers of people (i.e. your early days) than it is to do with larger populations. You're over 10 billion now. That's a lot of inertia.

That's why I left Free Socialist Allies to die and started this one. I saw the 100% and was like "Oh my fuck, my nation is a commie shithole".
