NationStates is experiencing server trouble

What I get when I try to log in...

NationStates appears to be having server difficulty. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you would like to notify admin, write to admin@nationstates.net. This is probably not necessary, though, since we have tens of thousands of users -- if you don't, someone else will.I'd just like to know if this is a common message to get when logging in during a server problem (never have seen it in two years playing), or is this another one of those bugs wherein you try to log in and your nation is deleted?

EDIT: And this is a hoot:

The Resolution At Vote

The following resolution is being debated by the UN. If it passes, it will immediately take effect in all UN member nations.
--- No Resolution Currently At Vote ---We were voting on something before, weren't we? :p

How very odd, I get it too. I have no idea what or why it is, but I shall bring it to the notice of the game admin peoples, presuming they don't notice it themselves.

Oh, also (from the UN page);

"The UN is the world's governing body. Membership is voluntary, but all member nations must abide by UN rules. [More Information]

The United Nations has connect error [/home/nation/tmp/unsock]: Connection refused member nations and connect error [/home/nation/tmp/unsock]: Connection refused Regional Delegates."

also all the nations are ranked 1st in the region and 1st in the world for connection error

Huh. Now that brings back memories ... on the off-chance that it's the same thing, don't try to log into your nation until all this is fixed. Back a ways when, the buffer overflowed, and anyone who logged into their nation found it suddenly reset back to zero. In everything. I don't think that this is that situation, but best to be safe than sorry.

odd, I read about the buffer overflowing today, I didn't know about it before .. I think it happened back in 2005? anyways I'm pretty sure I didn't try to log into my main nation although I did try with a few puppets

I get the same message as Tsaraine:

[/home/nation/tmp/unsock]

Hope it gets fixed soon.
And...the reset problem...does not sound good.
as I only have this Nation.

The Great Disk Space Disaster of 2005 (Take 2!)

by SalusaSecondus

"Yes, folks, it happened again. We filled up our hard disk. Apparently our fixes from the first time around didn't quite work. So, what's the situation? We ran out of space and the game tried (valiantly) to go on by making more space, by wiping out your accounts. Clearly it had its priorities messed up. Fortunately, a backup completed shortly before the game crashed. (Personally, I suspect that the backup caused the game to crash.) This means that I think that we lost just a few hours of data. I don't know how much yet. I'll get around to figuring that out after the game is fixed.

Our current status is "inconsistent". This means that the game is a tad confused about what's going on. So, until this is fixed, I've disabled new accounts. If you created an account between the last backup and the crash, your account is gone. Sorry. There are other problems that we'll be dealing with over the next week, but the game should be back to normal for most of you within a day.

Oh, yeah. I'm writing new code to keep this from ever happening again."

Bouitazia: It's quite unlikely for it to be that. I'm just raising the grim specter of possibility on the offchance, in the theory that it's better to be safe than sorry. This may well be something that the admins can fix by pressing a button, I don't know.

Good God, was that two years ago? Where did the years go?

Here's what "See the World" offers up;

I don't have code access, but it looks to me like something happened to the UN. Newly created nations are fine, as are existing nations, which tells me it's not the famous 0 of 0 nation destructing issue we had before.

Regions and "The World" are not displaying properly, as they require the UN Report. Consequently, people can't change regions (I don't think). Otherwise, I don't see a need to stop nation creation, and I have no reason to believe that there are any issues with attempting to log on to your nations (apart from not being able to do it).

We'll poke the admins and ask them to check it out.

its interesting, the numbers in the last line of the world under todays featured region keep changing everytime the world link is clicked -

So is this:
UN Resolutions Throughout History

Since the rise of civilization (November 13, 2002), the members of the United Nations have been working tirelessly to improve the standard of the world. That, or trying to force other nations to be more like them. But that's just semantics.

Below is listed every resolution ever passed by the United Nations.

Either Max Barry is mighty peeved at Kenny's repeal...

...or the UN can no longer function without common sense. Which would be news to many.

The server isn't down. If it was, you'd simply be timing out.

There's clearly a problem with part of the code, but my expectation is that no data was lost. We'll obviously lose the downtime for UN voting, but I seriously doubt there will be any other adverse effects.

Don't know if this is the right place to report this, but here it goes:

When I want to log in, it says incorrect password.
My nation seems to disappeared.
When I go to http://www.nationstates.net/47939/page=display_nation/nation=kermos
I get : The 0 of 0

Note: It is a recently revived nation.

Hmm, a few questions:

1. Is my main nation 'Kermos' dead for good?
2. Should I use the 'Getting help' form to report this error to a moderator, or this is enough?
