Regions without a founder

I've seen this in a few regions - where a region won't have a founder. this can be seen in the region of New Jersey, Vlaanderen, and others. is it possible to create a region without a founder now? or was that only something that could be done in the old days of nationstates?

They're all ancient as hell, before the concept of founders was created. No way to do it today.

When the founder's nation ceases to exist, the region also stops having a founder. But I can't remember if it still makes note of who the founder used to be or not.

It does make a note of who the founder used to be. It just doesn't say "the democratically elected people of so and so". All it says is the "SO and so" part.

Actually, no. It stops having an Active founder. If the founder requests restoration, he immediately gets his founder privileges back. *

* The exception being when the region is refounded by another nation. If that happens while the founder is asleep (or even alive and well, though you rarely see that happen), his foundership dies with the death of the old region.

Why would anybody want to do so?!?

While it can't be done the way it used to be done before Founders were implemented, there's a way to mimic the effect:

create a new nation, with a fitting name for your new region. Create the region. Now make sure the nation has no email set, turn off auto-login, turn OFF vacation mode, and fill in something garbled and complex as the password. Log out.

Make sure to move your actual nation into the region. Keep in mind empty regions are automatically removed by the game.

In 28 days the founder nation (which nobody can log in to anymore) will cease to exist. Its name will remain visible at the top of the region page (in black letters, showing the Founder nation has ceased to exist).

what happens when the founder is dead?? Is the region open to invasion?

It can be, yes. If the region has a strong and alert Delegate, it should be reasonably safe from most invasions; however, it won't have the invincible shield an active Founder can provide.
