Nuff said. Why is nationstates not working right now. It's been offline for at least 45 minutes now.

It's one of these reasons according to my browser.

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section

We can scratch off the first one, as I can visit other sites.
The second and third are feasible.
The fourth isn't, as there is no reason for the DNS to simply delete nationstates
and the fifth isn't, as it isn't a secure adress.
So, its either The website is temporarily unavailable. OR
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.

but which one? And when will it be fixed?

I'm having the same problem, but shouldn't this have gone in technical? I thought this was just for the issues...

I'll run some tests.

UPDATE: The DNS server is fine. We may be looking at another Disk Space disaster. Or maybe a DoS attack. Hmm.

UPDATE 2: Bah, I lied. The error code Safari has given me corresponds with "Connection reset by peer", which leads me to believe that the DNS server is in a funk, especially since I can do a traceroute to NS without getting an error.

I'll run some tests.

And by tests you mean going to nationstates.net to see if it works...<_<

Er, no. I don't. I actually use tools to figure out just what part is not working.

This belongs in Technical, not Got Issues. Moved.

NS resides on a virtual server on Jolt. When Jolt fiddles with their server clusters, they have to rebuild the virtual server DNS tables at Jolt. Thus, global DNS works fine for getting to the site, but Jolt's internal DNS routing drops the ball.

I have no idea why Jolt finds it necessary to set things up in such a bizarre and hard-to-maintain way, but they do. It'll either find its way live once the DNS self-refreshes, or (if we're lucky) we might catch one of them online and get it done manually. Don't hold your breath.

In other words, the Hamsters on the running wheels that power NS got annoyed when they had their nut clusters moved and stopped running.

Earlier I tried to access NS, and my browser kept telling me "page can't be found." So I disconnected and reconnected my Internet connection, then tried again. Still nothing. Then, when Jolt worked, and my NS off-site forums, I knew NS was down. But that's been quite a while ago now. Hope this problem is resolved soon. :)

The hampster on the wheels was funny. ... Lol. Great way to explain things!

Works for me

I guess they had to put down the servers while they were being painted.

It is enjoyable to play on newly painted servers. The bright yellow colour is most pleasing.

So for the last week or so, I've been trying to log onto NS from home. I have been unable to.

I normally use Firefox, but have also tried using IE, and nothing happens. It's as though my computer didn't know there even was such a site.

However, when I go down the road to a friend's house, I am able to swiftly and easily log onto the website. My username and password still work, so I'm wondering if it's a server/ISP problem, or is my IP address maybe being blocked for some reason...

And does anyone have any suggestions as to a solution? I can't go to my friend's house everytime I want to log onto NS...
