Can someone let me know how to create flags, etc.? If there is anything else that makes a nation unique, let me know.

For customizable flags, you must create a flag in a program that you own (ie word, photoshop, paint shop pro, etc.) then go to your nation's "settings" page. Click on the "Create Your Own Flag" link under the flag image and upload it from there.

As a note, there is a 10K limit, so saving flags in just about anything but JPEG, GIF, or PNG isn't going to work. Actually, a particularly busy or large GIF or PNG flag won't work either, so it's best to just save the flag as JPEG.
Additionally, there are several websites from which one can download real flags—especially real flags of non-national entities—that usually end up being less than 10K and thus uploadable to NS, saving you the trouble of recreating the banner of Çurañao Sub-Administrative Province for instance.
