Jolt is driving me crazy!

Is it my computer, my server, or is it Jolt that is keeping me from being able to be logged into the forum for more than about 10 mins. per session, and every two or three days won't allow me to log in at all for about 24 hours at a time?

Log in from the forums and tick the Remember Me box.

Log in from the forums and tick the Remember Me box.

That only works about half the time, and only unless you don't x out the window or take more than a 15 minute break from clicking on anything...

Actually it doesn't work at all for me, and it still doesn't explain why sometimes I can't log in at all even though I can tell when I finally can again that others have while I was unable to.

I think it logs out after a certain period of inactivity. It does for me.

I have a problem with the way Firefox stores the cookies on my home machine, but it's not a problem on my office machine. It's also not a problem when using Opera or Internet Explorer. Regardless, Firefox is my browser of choice at home, so I wanted it fixed.

I think the problem is some kind of cookie corruption, as each browser stores cookies in its own way. I resolve it (about twice a week) by deleting all Firefox cookies from jolt.co.uk and forums.jolt.co.uk. (You have to get both sets.) Doing so immediately kills your session and logs you off. When I log back in to the forums directly (and check the checkbox), I'm good for another few days.

You must do this within the Firefox Tools / Options to get the versions that Firefox uses. Other browsers have their own internal cookie management systems - I'm sure you can locate the right screen on your system. Try that and see if it addresses your issue.

It doesn't because I don't use Firefox.

I took the time to lay out how it might work in other browsers. You could at least read the entire post and try it in your browser instead of blowing me off.

Sorry if it came off like that. Wasn't my intention. I just misunderstood you. I'll see if I can get it to work on my browser.

I don't see how it's my responsibility to make jolt's website work. I'll be damned if I'm going to have to do something every few days just so that I stay logged in. Millions of boards have this problem under control. Hell...my invisionfree boards have this problem under control. Get on the ball, Jolt!

Is this where I point out that Invision is PHP while Jolt is vBulletin?

I don't know why people had trouble with Yugos. After all, my Ford works just fine.

Hahaha...

This I know, don't get me wrong. I've been around the "block" long enough. Still, it's hardly a good excuse, and Jolt still needs to get their act together regardless.

Amen, Steel Butterfly. After only two weeks or so of attempting to play this game, I am close to quitting because of the poor forum performance. Another week will likely decide it for me. I've NEVER rp'd anywhere that had such crappy forums in terms of accessibility. I can almost forgive the poor performance, if Jolt would at least indicate the issues, or tell you there is a problem. After having the UN Forums inaccessible via it's header for 24 hrs, I came on this evening to find I couldn't access ANY Jolt forums at all (now fixed), and so far, have yet to see word one from Jolt on what the issue was, or an apology. Imo, Mr. Barry needs to find a new home for his forums, lest he find that he is no longer gaining new members on his forums.

If this is not the appropriate place for this vent, please move it, and I will apologize.

As bad as Jolt is, they've got one thing going for them. They're free. I doubt if anything will change. Jolt will remain just barely good enough to prevent a mass walkout.

I've NEVER rp'd anywhere that had such crappy forums in terms of accessibility. You think this is bad, you should have been here before the move to Jolt. Back then the forums were so overloaded that you were damn lucky for any link to actually work on the first try, hell you were lucky to get it to work on the fifth try, not to mention the douple posts, triple posts, quadruple posts, quintuple posts, etc. believe me Jolt is is nothing compaired to what we had before.

Fris explained that problem here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11956760&postcount=3), he just couldn't fix it.

or an apology.I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for that, we aren't exactly paying customers.

Imo, Mr. Barry needs to find a new home for his forums, lest he find that he is no longer gaining new members on his forums.Jolt's hosting the game, so they're also hosting the forums and considering that we have more forum traffic than any other part of the Jolt forums you should be glad that they function as well as they do.

Yes, Fris explained what the problem was, not Jolt, and I saw no "response" from Jolt for 24 hrs, roughly. I am not blaming the mods on this board at all.

So because we don't pay, we have no right to a decent product or customer service? I truly understand it's less likely in a service we don't pay for, believe me, but is asking for even an acknowledgement of an issue, or a guesstimate of when it might be fixed too much?

I appreciate that these boards are free, but I have been on other boards that are also free, that have been far less buggy than these. Yes, those boards also offer "insider" benefits for those who wish to pay, which in turn pays for those of us who reap benefits on the free side. Perhaps Jolt could consider such a system. In the mean time, to simply not acknowledge ones customer base (paying or not) is BS. If I were a long time user, and I was faced with losing these forums, I'd very likely fork over US $5 a month to save all of this. As a new user, with what I've seen so far, it's not as likely. Just my 2 cents.

Additionally, Jolt DOES use ads, and I suspect at least a fair share of their users click on them. This isn't totally "free"...Jolt DOES make money from hosting these forums.

And FYI, not trying to piss anyone off here, just venting my frustration!

Ever hear of the VN boards? They are mesage forums for many MMORPG's. The one for my server (ONE server for ONE game, in a game that has over 15 servers in the US alone) has over 1 million "current" (not locked, not deleted) messages. They host for WoW, DAoC, UO, AC, SWG, and several other games. They do not host the games, JUST the message boards.

Locked messages now take up no server space? Interesting.

I'm not saying locked messages take up no space, I'm just not sure they are "counted" in the total thread count, where it shows the "active" threads.

Under the thread and post count area's, that counts both active and locked threads. So that is pritty much how many of each type are in that section of the forum from the time that NS Moved to Jolt.

Although it does not count deleted threads and posts.

I was referring to the VN boards I referenced above, not the Jolt numbers, but I suspect it's the same on VN.
