JPEG flags?

Sorry if this has been posted before, I've just started with NationStates and looking at the options I notice that it requires jpeg-format flags. This is an extremely bad decision, jpeg is a format for photographs, not illustrations, and as so is particularily prone to data-loss. PNG is ideal for diagrams and illustrations and doesn't suffer from any compression artifacts. Have a look at this image (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Jpgpng_compare.png) (from Wikipedia) for a good comparison between the formats.

SVG would be even better as an vector image, however few browsers (notably Firefox and Opera) support it right now and it is difficult to deal with.

So, would it be possible to consider allowing svg- or png-images as flags in NationStates?

Oh, and PS: I retain legal rights on stuff i post and write regarding my nation, right?

No it doesn't. Just upload another format with the file extension changed to .jpg. The 107x71 size restriction isn't enforced either.

That depends on which rights you mean - according to the terms and conditions (http://www.nationstates.net/pages/legal.html) 'when you submit content to NationStates.net, you grant the site and its administrator(s) a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, transmit, and publicly display such content.'

Actually you don't even have to do that, I uploaded mine as a png no problem.

Yeah, I've done that too. PNG works, as long as you can make the flag small enough to fit in under 10K.

Which we need to host the materials on the web.
