Eventually they'll just stop coming...

How long do you think it will take Jolt to get it's act together? They're a big enough company. You'd figure either they'd hire programmers that knew what they were doing or, if they're being attacked, get a firewall that can handle it. It's getting to the point where it's not worth trying to post.

I guess they feel they can afford to be complacent.

It was much worse before we switched to Jolt.

A key Jolt Admin installed a key new database, which worked fine for a month or two.

He went on holiday.

The database asploded.

(Yes, it's screwing up paying customers too)

Nobody else is/was trained on it, and they must therefore wait for the Key Admin to return from his much-needed holiday.

Such is life.

Hmm.... quintuple posts and a window of only 2-3hrs a day when I could even get logged in, let alone post?

Yeah, I think it was worse.

So there was a new database put up. I was just thinking that before a certain point in time, which I assume coincides with the putting up of this new database, there were no crashes like this, and everyone was always happy.

I think you're attributing too much to a single event.

Jolt has been making a ton of changes, including upgraded software, new hardware, and new locations for everything. A corrupted database table has taken out certain aspects of the email validation system, but this has nothing to do with the earlier database failures.

The main problem here is that the database administrator is on holiday. These things happen - they just need better coverage in the event of the inevitable.

Wait, that is happening right now? Or is it in reference to a past event?

Man, every time I give out a scrap of specificity, people start leaping to conclusions or jumping in with more questions. I'm going back to vagueness.

Someting go 'boom'. Dey workin' on it. 'K?

Agreed! You'd think that a large company would have backup personnel so the key person could go on vacation without everything blowing up. Unfortunately, it doesn't always happen like that. :(

It was much worse before we switched to Jolt.

I'm going to have to disagree on that. I remember the old server, and Jolt has surpassed it.

Was it?

It was much worse than when Jolt is simply experiencing their normal day to day tech problems (which, Keith's claims to the contrary, have not been fixed). But when Jolt is bad, like it has been over the last week, it far surpasses any problems I ever experienced on the old server.

A key Jolt Admin installed a key new database, which worked fine for a month or two.

He went on holiday.

The database asploded.

 An actual real live explanation for the problems?!?!? OMG!

Yeah, I think it was worse.

I've seen Jolt produce quintuple posts - in fact it's a regular event these days.

And 2-3 hours a day is exactly what I've had recently - some days less.

Absolute nonsense. Jolt has far more than 2 hours of up time a day.

Personally I'd say that it's currently a dead heat as to which is worse Jolt or the old forums.

I tried less than half an hour ago and couldn't get in. Though earlier today I was starting to wonder if it was some sort of weird-assed problem with connecting to anyting based in Europe. Had major problems getting onto a contest site based in France.

If you look at the thread times in General, you'll get a pretty good idea of when the forums are offline. They were down for better than 8 hours yesterday, and nobody posted. Your refresh button action is coincidence, not solution.
