Forum Difficulties

Below is a copy of an e-mail I sent to admin@nationstates.net under advice from one of these error messages I keep receiving when trying to login to the forums. This is the fourth day that this has been going on, so I decided to try to login under a differnent nation and e-mail address, and it worked! Still, I would much rather post under my main nation than use seperate nations. Since this worked, I've thought of trying some other things, like changing my e-mail address to see if it helps any, but I would still like to hear others' advice.

My nation, Fishyguy, has been having difficulty logging into the forums for the past three days. I have received an error message that reads, "database error, please try again" and also a more official looking message that says Jolt cannot log me into the forums for unknown reasons.

I can usually still view the forums, but have no way to login or post. The log-in box in the upper-right corner doesn't work either (it never has). Sometimes the space underneath the "Latest Threads" box on the left-hand side of nationstates.net is also empty.

Anything you could do or advise me about would be greatly appreciated. I have never experienced forum difficulties for this long before. I realize this may not be the correct submission form, but I currently have no other way of alerting a mod to the situation. You can telegram Fishyguy or e-mail fishy_guy1@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Meh... The mods most likely know that the problems are still occuring and they would be talking with the Jolt admins...

patience....

Gahh... But I have resolutions to debate, threads to hijack, people to annoy! :headbang:

Edit: This is totally unrelated, but I just noticed this.

"Welcome, Fishyguy 2.
You last visited: 01-01-1970 at 1:00 AM"

Is this the earliest record Jolt keeps, that it defaults to for first-time visitors?

But you can do that now anyway :p

about the edit... I presume the first time you join it uses 0 as the last time you visited... 0 = 1/1/1970 Midnight (UTC/GMT)

EDIT: Yay, I didn't know I had logged in using my [NS]....

I suppose, *sigh* but it's just not the same...

I'm going to change e-mail addresses between my nations to see if this helps. I've already noticed that my new nation is starting to act buggy (the "Latest Threads" box is blank). So if you don't hear from me again, assume that neither of my nations are working.

Edit: So I switched e-mail addresses, and nothing changed. Neither nation can login to the forums through nationstates.net, but Fishyguy 2 can login through the Jolt homepage. Odd.

Somehow I doubt it. There have been a lot of problems (non-functioning menus, random log-outs, unable to log-in, and disappearing subscriptions to mention some of the worst) with this forum for a long time now. I’ve tried contacting both the Nationstate mods and the administrators – nothing happens. Sometimes I think that they don’t really care…

Jolt runs the forums and it's there problem... Nothing to do with the Mods who are just here to keep the forums orderlly.

There was another thread that had something about Jolt in the title (I've forgotten what it was looked at it)... It's the jolt admins that treat us as poor cousins (frankly because we are).

There is nothing that Hack, Kat, Salusa, Repliod, Euroslavia, et al. can do.... They can only send emails to Jolt who may get around it to when they decide they can.

I am aware that the mods can’t really do anything about it. But if they can’t, then who? Someone has to tell Jolt that the current situation is unacceptable.

If Jolt continues to refuses to correct the errors in their forum, then perhaps it’s time for Nationstates to move to another host? I mean, if I was unhappy about the service that my host provides me, I would simply transfer my webpages to another. If Jolt won’t fix the problems, then why does Nationstate not move? This has been going on for a very long time now, and it doesn’t seem as if Jolt has any intensions whatsoever of fixing the problems.

Perhaps it’s about time to put some pressure on Jolt? Either they fix the problems or they lose a customer.

I think the main reason is... price (I think Jolt allows NS to be free). But then it's not my call but Max Barry.

I still want a refund. :p The reason this nation is called GinetV3 is because it took 3 tries to get Ginet access to Jolt. All we can do is keep trying to work around the numerous Jolt problems.

I know the mods check this forum, does anyone have an idea to fix this, or is my best bet to just start using Fishyguy 2 for the forums?
