I am no longer able to be automatically logged in when I go to the forums. I have not changed my settings in any way. What's going on, and why does this happen to me every few weeks?

Been having the exact same problem, myself, for the past 24h..To say that this is getting annoying would be to severly understate the issue.

Well, we live rent-free on their servers, consume more of their bandwidth than any other single group, and make programming demands on their time. We also don't wash the dishes or pick up our dirty underwear off the floor, and GMC's catgirl friends won't use the litterbox. Hack refuses to share the remote, and Karmabaijon's El Camino has been sitting out front on blocks for the better part of two years now.

No need to keep score of who it's affecting.Might it be worthwhile updating the Known Problems page when this sort of thing happens? Stating the latest date (i.e. later than Feb 2005) at which problems such as this have be noted to occur would reassure us when "The NationStates Forums / Hosted by Jolt Online Gaming / Please read this important message." comes up.

(BTW, I also got "status=-1&err=database+error+please+try+later" today as the entirity of the webpage body, which looks like page-request parameters rendered directly as the output to the requesting browser.)

This has been getting me really bad. I haven't been able to log on but 1 time for the last couple of days. Direct linking, following the known problems page, manually logging in.. Nothing worked. It would show me as logged in, then I'd go to post and it would say I didn't have to right to do that for some reason. It was horrible! :O

Really, though. It happened awhile ago. back when I first joined, then stopped. I was surprised when it came back. Thought they had fixed it or something.

Didn't something a lot like this happen right after we moved from the old forums to Jolt? I seem to remember a 1 or 2 week span in which I couldn't log in at all, and then a few days where I had to direct link.

I guess we'll just have to wait, no?

None, because we think you're icky. :p

It took me through the login page 5 times just to post this. Every time it says, 'Thank you for logging in', and then kicks back to login!

I cant post, because by the time it logs in I've lost my train of thought! :(

and admin wont respond to my email.

So when will this be resolved?
If we had access to the code in question, it would have been fixed long since. We don't have access to the code. We have to wait for Jolt admins and coders to resolve this.

It's been raised, escalated, and escalated again. We don't have a lot of leverage here (as has already been noted in this very thread), so you'll simply have to wait until they fix it.

You can post with at least one nation. Be happy with that.

This is getting really annoying. The problems with this forum have been getting worse and worse throughout the last 6 months or so.

I’m wondering: is the NS are the only part of Jolt affected, or is it the whole forum?

proly just ns, because if you don't log in through ns, the automatic log-in is still there. i've experienced a few isolated causes of this bug but now its happenning far too often.

Jovian Empire
04-08-2006, 13:40
For some odd reason, Jovian Empire can't log directly onto Jolt. I had been getting on through NS until this latest bug hit and I couldn't get on. This morning, instead of clicking "Forum", I clicked one of the "Latest Topics" and got on! Of course, now that I have, they'll probably close that "loophole".

They're doing it on purpose! It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

Well, in the past, when I was on the NS page as Jovian Empire and I tried to go to the forum from there, I got an error message, even though it used to work. This morning, I clicked on one of the Latest Threads instead, and it took me to the thread and logged me in. But when I tried it now it didn't work. :( Also, Jovian Empire can't seem to log on from the Jolt forum; I get an "Invalid username or password" message, even though the username and password are correct. So, I had to post this as Uranus Territory. Jolt hates Jovian Empire! :(

I created several countries in March 2006, and nearly all of them have serious Jolt problems. Jovian Empire was created in April, but it didn't totally escape the "March jinx". :( Most of the nations I created before or after March (except for Jovian) seem to get on okay, except for some of the newest ones, but I'm not too worried about those. It does bug me about Jovian, though. :(

You're lucky. At least you can manually sign in. The only way I can get in is through my nation's page, and then only every tenth time or so. I haven't been able to log on for five days.

If it weren't for the other people posting in this thread, I'd be tempted to think this was a subtle attempt to silence me. ;P

I read somewhere that the date I created this nation might have something to do with me having this problem. Would it be a good idea to just create a new one and use that puppet to post? (And would it be possible to delete my existing nation and all record of it, and re-register the same name?)

I created a new puppet to get on when the original Ginet couldn't access Jolt. The mods don't delete nations, and you can't reuse the old name for a different nation, but you can create a similar name, or maybe mention in your sig that you are the same nation.

Log out of your nation and close the browser
Delete your autologin cookie from nationstates.net (or www.nationstates.net)
Log in again, and change your settings for autologin.
Save.

I created Vimeria II a few weeks ago, and wasn't able to log in to the forums. I didn't mind at first, thinking it was just some minor glitch that would resolve itself. Finally I got a bit frustrated, and was just about to email the admin, when, trying it for one final time, I suddenly got in.

Now I'm afraid to log out, 'cause I don't know if I'll get back in again. :(

Can you tell a computer incompetent how to find and delete this cookie?
Frisbeeteria
10-08-2006, 23:31
In Firefox, it's Tools / Options / Privacy / Cookies. Click the View Cookies button and scroll until you find the nationstates.net cookie. Hit the Plus sign. One of the cookies will be labeled "autologin". Click the "Remove Cookie" button. Close / OK.

In Internet Explorer, it's a broad broom. Tools / Internet Options / Delete Cookies. If you're running Windows XP, you can try visiting C:\Documents and Settings\your_profile_name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files and look for a cookie from nationstates.net or www.nationstates.net.

In Opera 7, try File / Preferences / Privacy and click "Edit Server filters". Scroll to the folder labeled 'nationstates.net' and click the twistie. One of the cookies will be labeled "autologin. Highlight and click the "Delete" button. Close / OK.

If you're using something else, I imagine the rules will be similar. If you can't figure out what browser you're using ... well, that's too much of a 'computer incompetent' for me to handle. Sorry.

Oki, I was redirected here by Fris, dunno why it seems off tangent from what the original topic was about and no-one seems to be answering any questions not relating to the original thingy, anywho, onto my point...

Oki, so a couple of months ago I accidently put Nationstates emails on my block list (in an attempt to stem my overpuppeteering) now this may or may not be linked to a recent problem, I decided to go back to my old nation of Spooty, trouble is I can't post, I'm guessing this is because my nation died and was ressurected, so I decided to get round this by changing my given e-mail address but I never got a notification for there in order to confirm my change of address, so what's up?
