Idea for improvment...

As you probably know, there's an Amber Alert system across America, that flashes an Alert, subject to certain criteria, when a child has gone missing.

As you probably also know, a lot of people use the internet, and often that means they are not watching television, so may not notice an Amber Alert.

So how about adding an Amber Alert Ticker to the website? It's quite discreet and no modifications are needed to the code, which is a simple cut-and-paste code.

There is a Canadian one available as well.

I have put both kinds on my website (which is still in the contruction phase), and I've only just noticed an Alert that is currently in progress because I just had a look at it. http://www.geocities.com/selfdefenceuk/ (click the ticker for details of the alert)

You can get the ticker from http://codeamber.org/web_ticker_code.html (ignore the e-mail info if you don't want to provide it - just click the "Get Website Ticker" button)

I think it would be a good idea as the more people who know about a missing child, the better the chances of getting that child to safety. By adding the code, you would not only show that NationStates is making a positive contribution to society, but you could potentially help to save a child's life.

But a lot of people here don't live in the US or Canada.

Ah, fair enough. But a good number also do :-)

Pythagosaurus, what was the blinking at?

There are any number of good causes that could be added to our pages. While we're at it, let's add a pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness that links to a site for donations, a Red Cross link for natural disaster relief, or any of a thousand other worthy and important goals. I bet we could add enough links to put the average GeoCities site to shame, to the point that you actually couldn't find the menus or nation descriptions. Wouldn't that be nice.

Or we could just recognize that this is a political simulation game designed to sell a book, and concentrate on that instead.

Hear hear, not everything needs to be for this and that, I get enough of that stuff with Mothers Day being the fight for breast cancer day and Fathers Day being the fight for colon cancer day and Christmas being the fight against the kill Christmas movement and..... blah and blah and blah.

A good amount more than three cheers for this moderator ruling!
