My new nation is going pretty well but now has income tax levels of 69%. So what can I do about it, when there's no issues to resolve it? I know it's just a game but it makes me feel good to think I rule a nation of happy people.

You really have to wait until the right issue comes up. Not much you can do about it.

A lot of people are running on 100% tax rates. It's not abnormal

Who says they wouldn't be happy with 100% tax? Enn's about 1000th in the world in happiest, and I've had 100% tax since about a month into the game.

Happiness with a 100% tax rate would all depend on how many public services are available in your country. So yes, citizens can be content with a 100% tax rate.

I'm 20th in the world for happiness with tax rates probably way above 100% :p

Lowering your tax rates is simply a matter of choosing options on issues that don't require new taxes and reduce taxes when possible. Read the options closely and try to evaluate what they would do.

My nation is often at or around 100%. There are opportunities in the issues to reduce taxes.

100% tax rate has some odd ramifications.

100% tax = no after tax income = no-one has any money = all goods and services must be free = no-one earns any money = no taxes paid = government gets no income = no services provided.....

In communism though, everybody's supposed to work for the fun of it you know. Or is it just the power of peer pressure?

Actually, when I was a socialist, I assumed that I took all money made, then redistributed it evenly among all my people. So that kinda works.

It all depends on how socialist an economy you want. If you have a super capitalist economy, or even a capitalizt one, all your people make their money, and spend it on what they need. The more you tax, the less people can choose how to spend their money, and the more the government gives the people free stuff, even if it isn't quite tangible. For example, if in a capitalizt nation a man wanted security, he would go spend the money he earned to buy a shotgun or something, maybe a cool axe or even a tank, if he was rich. But in a socialist nation, the people would be given security bought by the government, even if it is not actually gien to them, like the huge military payed for by the government.

To lower your taxes, if you really want to do that, just choose the least expensive option given in every issue, and stay away from things like "though it would require a substantial boost to government funding"
