I'm now on my third or forth try to get a UN nation, and here's my problem-
1-I verify the e-mail adress of the nation.
2-I apply to join the UN
3-I recieve the telegram saying "We are pleased to welcome you into the UN..."
4-I never recieve the promised conformation e-mail

Thanks for any help.

A spam filter probably ate it. Try using a different e-mail from a different provider.

well the spam filter didn't get the conformation email did it.
I've had the same thing.
I changed the email address to one where you can see what is being filtered and have not received a verification email so i suspect its screwed

Actually, I may be having the same problem with a puppet I have. I sent a request to join the UN with one e-mail, got the telegram, but never got the actual e-mail. I'm trying it with an e-mail account on a different site; I hope it works.

Have you been trying with AOL? Apparently there's a major problem with that, it simply deletes emails from NS, without them even showing up in your spam/trash folder.

I've figured out the problem. It has nothing to do with NS or Jolt, but Hotmail's "automatic purging" of the trash can.

And that may be The Western Mountain's problem as well. It could have gotten into the trash can and was purged, especially if you didn't check the account right after you received the confirmation telegram.

well not using aol or hotmail, wanadoo (with checkable filtering and I delete the junk before its autodeleted) and virgin which doesn't allow you to manually check junk and have used both.

I have the telegram, still waiting for the actual e-mail. I don't know when I got the telegram, so I'll have to wait for a few hours before seeing if the application actually worked.

Edit: STILL waiting. It's been at least 12 hours since I even knew that the telegram was in my inbox. Oh, and if it helps, the puppet's name is Neo Metal Music.

Edit: And I'm already trying a new nation with a new e-mail. Beat you to it. :p

I have had the same problem. I have now applied to the UN twice. I got the first telegram, and waited more than 24 hours, but have yet to get an email.

I've applied again, but am still waiting for the telegram for that.

I have checked my trash/spam folders, and there's nothing there, and I even created a filter to send messages from NationStates to a specified folder.

I wish there were some easier way to confirm UN member status, perhaps through a link on your nation page. :\

Sadly, some email accounts filter emails no matter what you tell them.

Try another email address from another provider (Yahoo, Hotmail) and see if this works.

A lot of ISP's filter out email before it even gets to you. I know AOL does this to NS emails.. probably are a couple others.. I have not had problems with Yahoo or Gmail addresses (though I haven't applied to the UN in a long time)

when i say i can see what is being filtered thats as in log in to the webmail interface and examine the inbox and junk folders which contain stuff thats filtered by my isp so i can tell them what is and is not spam rather than another isp which just filters and doesn't
delivery of the un emails seems to be random given that others are saying yahoo and gmail don't work.
Almost makes you wonder if they are harvesting email addresses though i'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just suspect its dodgy coding and an iffy isp (hey perhaps its coming via verizon)

No, it's just a glitch that is starting to annoy a lot of people. Help? Moderators? Please? :D

Trying with two different nations and four different e-mail addresses (me) seems to confirm that this is a glitch in NS, not in the e-mails themselves.

Edit: Just keep clicking "Join the UN". One is bound to actually WORK. :) I didn't do it yet, but that will be my last option if I can't find out why it's not working.

Edit: It lets you click it only once. It that doesn't work, my mouse and finger are going to get some exercise over the next few days :D

Still getting nothing...

Edit: Would applying with two different nations with different e-mails cause this? I applied for UN with this nation and a puppet. What happened was, I applied for both because the UN has a queue, and I was using this nation in the UN for fun, but I was going to use the other nation in the UN very soon, and I didn't want to wait the usual day or two. Could this have messed up the UN for me on my end (a sort of "bottleneck" of UN applications from the same IP)?

For my puppets, I automatically get the e-mail concerning posting on the forum. It's not being blocked by a spam filter. It's something funky going on with the UN.

The fact that dozens of nations are joining the UN every hour tells me that the NS side is working. I can't prove that it's your email provider, but that's historically been the case, and nothing looks special about this one.

In any event, moderators can't do a thing if the emails aren't being sent. That would take an admin's attention.

You know that thing about verifying the e-mail to post on the forum? I get those, instantly. It isn't even a problem with my e-mail address; they just refuse to pick up the UN application e-mail. I don't know what's going on.

Thanks, I'll have to talk to an admin about it. Maybe Salusa can help.

Edit: Bug report sent to admin account. Let's see if they can solve it.

Edit: I am also trying to apply for the UN with this nation, because it is not in Vacation Mode. If it doesn't work, then Vacation Mode has nothing to do with it.

I have been trying for a UN email at netscape and gmail. I get forum confirmation emails and password emails in both accounts. Based on the extreme junk in my gmail spam folder, I suspect there is no pre-filtering in that account at least - and emails remain in the spam folder for 30 days. I realize that historically the problem has been with the email accounts, but there has been a huge surge of activity in this thread the past few days.

With the new influence rules in place, it is important to regions being attacked to be able to join the UN and endorse UN delegates in a timely fashion. The majority of people trying to join the UN in my region were unable to within 3 days. (We were able to resurrect our founder, so most people stopped trying for a UN email at that point). When a region is trying to defend against a raider attack, 14 days is far too long to wait.

attempting to put different nations into the UN from the same ip address has probably also resulted in you being marked as a cheat for trying to get multiple nations in (their fault for not allowing a nation to be deleted except by not logging in for 28 days)

You don't get labelled as a cheat for having mutiple invites, you're only considered a cheater if you have more than one UN nation at the same time. I had a UN nation at the time I applied, but I still wouldn't be considered a cheater because I never had two in the UN at the same time.

Edit: I tried to apply using the same Gmail account, and the exact same thing happened; telegram, but no e-mail.

Yeah I'ver had the same problem trying to move UN status to my puppet Burn up Blade 2. I've tried using my yahoo and my fastmail accounts which have both worked for this over the last couple of years but this time I haven't got any UN e-mail. It used to take 2 days most of the time and I've waited about 4 days on both e-mails I would say.

Even if it is coming but takes 14 days to get there then that's still a problem in my eyes. If I was a new player and this happened I doubt I'd carry on playing the game.

As a test, I applied to the UN with 3 different nations under 3 different emails. I received all 3 emails in a hotmail, gmail, and yahoo inbox this morning. Sorry, but I can't find a problem with the email providers themselves, and emails *are* getting sent out.

Could you possibly apply with a different nation and see if you still fail to receive the emails?

I've already tried that, but no luck. Is there anything else that can affect e-mails being sent (programs, etc.)?

3 successful mails is hardly an extensive test and merely indicates that some mails are going out whereas the comments in this thread indicate there is a problem that includes gmail, yahoo and hotmail accounts and is probably nothing to do with the email address except in some abstract way perhaps

Not only that, it isn't the game's fault. E-mails are getting sent out to people. Just not to us. :p

I would guess that an admin does have the ability to manually grant UN membership. Hopefully, I can get one of the four nations/e-mails to work this time. Wish me luck.

Presumably the admin could bestow UN access as they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want, what with having code access and all. Granted, it could break the game (like renaming nations does), so it might not be a good idea.

As for if it doesn't work, I'm really not sure. I'll probably slap "ATTN ADMIN" on the thread or something. I don't think there's much else that can be done.

I just got two (don't ask, I only applied once) for Legendary Rock Stars. Seeing as how it was the last one I got into the UN with no problems, that kind of makes sense. I'm going to go check the others as well. If you can, try it with the last nation that you had join the UN with no problems. I am guessing that for me, at least, the UN was... "clogged", and joining with the last nation that I had in it unclogged it somehow.

Check the spam/junk folders of your email. If the email definitely isn't getting through, it might be the email account - especially if you use AOL. If so, the best thing might be to try with an alternate email address.

Yes, the code works now, but there's another issue. The mail server refuses to send messages when the server load is too high, which is most of the day. Last night, there were about 21,500 messages in the queue. Now, there are about 18,500. So, most people will probably be waiting about a week for their e-mails after joining.

Add me to the list of nations unable to join - nothing in the spam box, two different email accounts (aol and comcast - now on a third), and a week has gone by. Also, other account updates are not taking: I changed my issues from one a day to two a day and I still only get one a day. (I know this is a different issue, but I thought I'd mention it). Plus, I'm posting here without having confirmed any but my first email, so something is up with the system database.
