My very own flag!

Okay, so since I decided that my current flag was boring, I spent a half an hour of creating a MS Paint image because that's pretty much the only imaging program I have. I sized the area down to 107x71 and saved my drawing. I log into NS and it turns out that my picture is too big of a file, and it's a bitmap and not a jpeg file. Any help here, or am I doomed to remain as Sweden?

To easily switch it around (and reduce the filesize further, if needed), check out IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com). It's a tiny, free program that can easily switch from .bmp to .jpg.

While nowhere near as powerful as Photoshop or the like, it will more than suffice for what you need. You could also look into The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/), but I've found Irfan to be far more userfriendly.

Ok... I've got the program, and I must be an idiot or something, because I can't figure out how to re-format it. Any help or places to find help?

So easy you'll kick yourself ;)

Open the image. Select 'File' and then 'Save As'. Under "Save as type", select "JPG - JPEG files". A window to the right will pop up allowing you to set compression and such. Ignore that for now and just save as a .jpg. If it's still to big, play with the compression slider. I've found that 75% is usually more than enough compression (unless your file is hyoooge).

Whoo! I got it, and it didn't need to be compressed, it came out as 932 bytes, which was less than I expected. Thank you for all the great help. I'll put my new flag up right away!

Hi Tenarion,

just "Save As" in Paint, "Save as type" = JPEG.

All the best,

Edderkopp

PS if it's still too big you'll just have to simplify your flag.
