Thank god I'm not the only one...

So, let's wait for them to fix it and have a little theme party... something like "0 of 0 Brain Cells left" *get the vodka out of the fridge* ;)

I'm the O of O as well, bit confusing really, because if I had the choice, I'd be 1 of 3,567,234 at the very least :)

It's most likely NS-wide.

Sup. I am the nation 0 of 0.

You think they would have seen it coming for the second time ...

02-04-2006, 14:36
Yep, it's happened again. To me (http://www.nationstates.net/Starblaydia), too.

Don't log into your nations, people reading this :)

Then read this (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/0_of_0) from the wiki. It explains all about the 0 of 0.
Wingarde
02-04-2006, 14:36

Correction: third. :D

Anyway, it's really nothing to worry about. Now we just have to wait for the admins to restore a backup.

yeah, it's happened a couple times in the past. the mods usually end up reverting all nations to the night before.

Don't log into your nations!

at least i'm guessing :p

Crazy girl
02-04-2006, 14:42
Is what they said last time this happened...

and Sal then put up a day old back up or so
Wingarde
02-04-2006, 14:43
If this is like the previous two times, there's no real reason to panic.

Anyway, let's keep this in one thread, please:

Yes, but it probably just generates more panic, especially in those that have logged into their nations. I logged in the previous and this time and Wingarde was restored just fine. Probably just the very newest nations (i.e. hours old) won't be recovered.

My nation also turned into the 0 of 0.
The crash is also affecting the featured region thing.

a warning not to log into your nations causing panic? doubt it..

When the admins get online and down to it.

It will require one of the admins to wake up (they're in various timezones) and restore from back-up after deleting some old junk that clogs up the server. Of course, if they used a proper database this kind of thing wouldn't happen (that is, the data wouldn't become corrupted when the server ran out of space).

About how long did it take the last two times before the mods got everything back up and running?

BTW, I would much rather look at 7 of 9 instead of 0 of 0. Maybe someone could add that into the code so next time we atleast have something better to look at. :D

SalusaSecondus also produced a news item announcing that the code would be changed to prevent similar problems occurring in the future.
Maybe this is an all-new error.

But all Salusa would have needed to do is replace the NationDates code with the NationStates code used immediately before it - which is presumably what he did, as NationStates was working as normal this morning.

On second though, there could be a link - all the extra data from the NationDates Survery could have made the server almost run out of disk space, and then a few extra nations this morning could have pushed it over the edge.

First of all thanks to everyone who has posted for letting peeps know about the problem and the causes. i thought i'd been killed off and couldn't figure out why. i tried logging in several times cos it said i was using the wrong password and then it timed me out for 45 mins. i'm relieved because if we do go back a day my nation has been around for almost a month and so would survive the back date. NS Mods will fix this so lets just all be patient and try and get the word out to other NSers who have not logged in yet and stop the panic.

ALSO I think it's more than a little rude to tell the Mods how to do their job or criticize NS for crashing. Let's all remember this is a FREE Game and takes a lot of volunteer time to provide NS to all of us. Technical Shit happens. Let's not be ungrateful for this wonderful game or the people that bring it to us.

At the time of writing, logging into your nation will set your national variables to null values, breaking it. Your nation will subsequently display a long error message. Please do not log into any of your nations at this time.
