Irregular Crime Rate Spike

As the topic title suggest, I’ve had a highly irregular spike in my crime rating. For around two years or so my crime rating has always been the same: “totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force.” Now, suddenly, its jumped to “crippling”. No intermediate stages, just WAM! one extreme to the other. I’m guessing that’s probably a bug, since I can’t see that sudden a change happening “naturally” after so much “momentum” was built up. Wondering if someone can shed a little light on this.

PS- I’ll be dismissing all my issues for now so nothing gets changed any more than it already is.

Maybe your crime rate fell so low that it wrapped around to a really high value. I remember someone (perhaps Salusa) mentioning that many of the variables aren't bounded internally (so you can have a massively negative income tax value, allowing you to introduce huge welfare programmes while keeping income tax 'unheard of').

Did you perhaps make a massive tax cut? Cutting police budgets might have done it.

Or maybe as well you reversed an earlier decision about civil rights, which took away some police powers?

I remember someone (perhaps Salusa) mentioning that many of the variables aren't bounded internally (so you can have a massively negative income tax value, allowing you to introduce huge welfare programmes while keeping income tax 'unheard of').A nice theory, but unlikely. My tax rates hit 0% about 30 months ago and have continued to be lowered. Since they aren't bound, there's nothing to stop a drop, nor anything to make it wrap around again.

Thankfully.

As for the problem here, it's hard to say. Looking at the last four issues, there's nothing that really leaps out as something that would push up your crime rate. It could be that it was an issue that happened before and you didn't notice. Or, you answered five issues at once and the one that did this isn't showing.

Strange. I've always gotten intermediate stages. The only one I can think of where crime would massivly go up is the one where you set all prisoners free.
