Custom Flags

I really hate the system you have right now.
How about making it so that we can upload flags to a seperate website like imageshack.us? It would take up less space on the server, and it wont be as much of a bitch to make 1 10kb jpg. Which as far as I know is impossible.
I've everything in my power to make my image 10kb, such as setting quality to 0 and making sure my flag was only 2 colors. Please try and consider the system.

The restrictions are perfectly reasonable. People are able to make stunning flags within them. Personally, I rarely need more than 3kb.

Are you sure you saved it as a jpeg? I had accidentily saved mine as a bitmap and that takes up much more room.

Try saving it as a gif. It can't be impossible since so many people have really nice custom flags. Mine's quite large and still under the limit

Letting you supply a link is a security risk to everyone who visits your nation page. It will not happen. Neither will you get more space. I'm surprised you're allowed to have a custom flag at all.

How so? If the address is validated as a true web address and suitably escaped (so that there can't be server-side exploits) then there's no more risk from remote images than from local images (as the element is used rather than ). Or am I missing something here?

Ah, the new admin speaks... hello, and congrats for being the better appicant than I.

That said, I have not had a major problem with flag size at all. My largest flag is a .GIF that was made in Paint Shop Pro, costing a scant 3.5kb. My most numerous flag is a 2.2kb .GIF made in Flash. And of course, I also have some minimalistic ones, each costing a mere 0.9kb...

I am assuming your size issues come from the .JPG extension. Make them a .GIF, it saves space. .JPG is intended only for use in photography, as it reduces detail on highly complex pictures. On pictures that are only 107x71px it wastes space, and it is better to use a .GIF (just make sure you do not use more than 255 colors, and hopefully, use a .GIF optimizer like Paint Shop Pro has... using the default 255 tend to look odd unless you use the colors from day one and dont need to dither.)

If you need a converter and cannot find one, I can work on it for you... contact me using any method to the left of this post, and I will work on it for you.

It's probably not in my best interest to go into too much detail. IP logging is reason enough for it to be forbidden, though.
