Subscription Problems

I reported a problem a long time ago with a similar complaint...but I can't seem to subscribe to a thread. That 'thread tools' path doesn't work for me... and I think that if you post in a thread, it's supposed to add that thread to your list of subscribed threads. That doesn't work either. I probably won't even be able to subscribe to THIS thread, which I need to do so that I can get advice on how to subscribe to everything else! I need to be able to subscribe to things to fulfill the level of participation I'd like to have on the forums. Any advice?

DAMMIT. I have now been utterly humiliated. Two seconds before I posted this thread my subscriptions did not work. Now apparently they do. I feel like an idiot.

EDITED PART AS FOLLOWS
(and now another two seconds later, it does not work. Apparently the Technical Thread Tools thing works, but International Incidents, the one I need most, does not. This is really confusing, but the point is I still need help.)

All right, here is the deal. The subscription button under thread tools has not been working properly for some time now. Occasionally it responds while most of the time it doesn't.

There are a couple of other ways you can subscribe. One is, when you are about to post in a thread, scroll down in the window to the section labeled "Additional Options." In the third box you will see a drop down menu about thread subscription.

Alternatively, you can find the URL of the thread (be careful when you do this because often it is not the correct one - like after a post. Generally if you go back to the first page it will have the correct one). For example the URL in this is: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=465598.

Then replace the, "showthread.php?t=" with "subscription.php?do=addsubscription&t=" and click enter.

Thanks a lot. The URL thing works, I know.

To use the box in the new reply menu, do you just check the email setting you want and then post, and it will automatically subscribe?
