Would it be possible to tweak the code slightly so that players can choose to have their nations' pages use the British spelling for words such as 'favourite' & 'defence' instead of being stuck with the American spellings?

(Okay, I do know that the answer's [almost] certainly going to be "No, not going to happen", but there's no harm in asking is there?)

Right. While we're at it can you have translations for norwegian too? That's my language.. :)

Seriosuly though, can't you handle reading american english? It's no big deal, and you already have thousands other on the site dealing with reading a foreign language.

Write an extension for Firefox if having superfluous 'u's all over the place is that important. If they can do "Bork Text (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=507&application=firefox)", British can be done.
