What happens to NS when M. Berry dies?

Couldn't figure out what category this goes in.

Well, everyone dies someday, so if Max does, what happens to NationStates? Will a Moderator take over?

Maybe he will let his kid(s) or wife inherit it. Or maybe he'll start a foundation later on: the NationStates Foundation. Anyway, this is nice for speculation, but I guess nothing serious will come out of it :D

I doubt this is the right forum. You'd be better off asking in General for advice on copyright law. I don't know what particular protections applies to his code in this game, and the game concept as a whole, but I would think they would be protected for x years, rather than related to his life-span. So possibly nothing.

Why are you worrying about this? Max is only 32 I highly doubt that he'll be dieing anytime soon.

This is a horrible thought....

You know, Flibblelites and DMG are correct. I doubt we have to worry about this kind of event for a long long long long time

Max can't die. He is a program in the super computer [violet].

THERE IS NO SPOON!!!!!

I suppose if some Evil Pegasus dropped an anvil on his head, Salusa or one of the other admins would take over the site. Of course, he'd have to figure out how to obtain the rights to the code...

I'm sure Mr. Barry has something in store should he meet with an unfortunate accident.

I am sure Max's #2 in command, Ayman al Zawhari will take over.

I'm pretty much certain that NS won't be around by the time Max dies. Even if it is, he'll probably have sold it a long time ago so that he can actually have some peace and quiet in his retirement. I'm sure a game such as this that has appeared in online press, is supported by a major company and has hundreds of thousands of players would be of interest to somebody.

Worst case scenario
If Max dies I suppose eventually NS will just fall into disrepair as Jolt starts spending money on other projects or outright collapses if such a thing happens NS will be at the mercy of hackers and will finally cease existing once the server finally has its last hiccup (mind you once people start filling it with ads and the regular seizures increase 100X you probably won’t want to play NS anymore)

but of course this game is 5 years old which means eventually (as in 2 years tops) the army of 5 mil nations will dry up and NS will become a ghost town long before Max eats himself

What a morbid question.

That being said, I have no idea about legal stuff, but I'd step up into primary management of the site ([violet] is often busy so I'd be the better choice) and would keep the game going until such a time as the lawyers tracked me down and told me what to do.

We can see your true motive things!!!

Ah, but what about NS2 then, I am sure that would probably make it better in the world than regular old NS, simply because it will be making money (or at least, costing less money... or something)

When we start selling memberships to NS2 you can worry about it then. Suffice to say, I wouldn't hold my breath whilst waiting.

Yeah, I have a question about NS2. Before I left for Iraq in AUG 04, I was getting the feeling that NS2 was right around the corner. Now it is JAN 06, and NS2 isn't even around, or is it? WTFO?

How on EARTH is this an answer to the question? Your answer would only matter if someone STOLE NS  .

I know the fourm, I looked over the thread. My question is WHEN THE FUCK IS NS2 GOING TO BECOME A REALITY AND NOT JUST A THREAD ON A JOLT MESSAGE BOARD?

Man, the guy is 32 and people start speculating about what to do when he dies. He’s a writer! I realize that that’s old in the eyes of a lot of NS players, but in writer’s years he’s still very young. He’s got a long way to go unless he decides to go the machismo Hemingway route and start living dangerously, dodging bulls and bullets. Short of that Buick with your name on it, writers tend to live a long time. Now if Max takes up mountain climbing, sky diving, or hand gliding; then I think people have something to be worried about.

That and I think we should be more worried about Salusa Secondus. He never looks both ways before crossing the street anymore goes outside without wearing a coat all the time. :-)

Actually, it’s a very involved job. One person would be very suspicious, but with 28 it’s hard to notice us. I work the Wednesday afternoon shift...

Not a bad shift. I like how that pub has tons of local brews on tap.
