When you create the name of your nation, you're allowed to give it certain titles... "Republic", "Grand Duchy", etc. But while I was looking at the name of some people's countries, I realized that some of their nation's titles had other ones that I wasn't given the option to choose... how is that? Is there a way to create your own custom title or something?

Yes. When you get to 500 million population, you get to choose whatever you want (within a certain character limit, and obviously nothing offensive). It'll be a few weeks yet before you can choose a custom title.

28 characters is the limit. So-called pre-titles are held to the same standards as other user-customizable fields (ie: stronger than forum posts).
