I un-exist? undead account *zombie walk*

Knootoss

Hi,

So I was changing my signature yesterday to update it to link to my latest news post, and I clicked submit and then I got the database errors. Apparently, just like the rest of you.

I figured it was something temporary and I went to bed... only to log back in and find the UNDEAD KNOOTOSS ACCOUNT OF D00M.

As you can see, I can post but my postcount is n/a, my profile link is no longer clickable and my signature is gone. It does appear to have saved selected other info (such as my birthday.)

I haven't posted anything even remotely controversial (I think... unless Aram being angry abouta UN resolution counts) and I'd figure that a forumban would take away my ability to post and not my postcount ;_;

So uh... "plz hlp" or something like that.

Oh, great, I just noticed I cannot edit my posts either.
Knootian East Indies

This one is unaffected I think, so it would appear to really be a problem for the 'Knootoss' account specifically.
Knootoss
30-11-2005, 13:17
I would edit this information into my first post usually - but unfortunately that ability has been taken away. Some additionals:

I did NOT get a telegram from a mod regarding mod action.
I can STILL acces my thread subscriptions in my profile and my profile generally. I have NOT tried to change anything (well, except posting here ofc and another post to see if it worked.)
I was having problems BEFORE up till a week or so ago that I could not post with Knootoss at all because of that stupid Jolt upgrade. Fris knows about those problems and they were "unsolveable" then. So Knootoss is part of an account group of people who validated right at the beginning... a group that Jolt dislikes apparently.
This is making me sad. You don't want Knooty sad, do you? :(

Your nation is not dead. Is your email valid? This happened to me too, but I created a new nation, with a valid email adress, and it worked again. Only my nations with an invalid email can't login on this forum anymore.
Knootoss
30-11-2005, 15:02
My e-mail is valid I suppose. However that isn't the issue. I have the same e-mail adress for all my nations and this one is the 'early validator' and it is the one not working.

And I really do not want to think about having to create a new nation. :/

Same goes for me I suppose... (Same issue/error vector as Knoot...)

Oh well. Back to Syniks for a bit.

None can destroy Guffingford, no php or mySQL error can hurt me, for I have protection from above!

Anyway, it looks like you're on a guest type of account, yet still capable to post even though 'guest posting' is turned off by jolt. Weird.

Does Syniks Exist? This is a test Post...

Edit: OK, I exist. Cynigal is my only login with the n/a no-sig issue.

I humbly await Technical advice on when I can use Cynigal again.

heres what i think... jolt may/may not have been hacked.

the database may/may not have run out of space and/or had an error

IF either happened certain players jolt profiles such as mine may/may not have been corrupted

The issue has been raised with Jolt.

It also appears to be affecting certain new nations, so I'm guessing it's random rather than age-related.

I probably know what's happening. Actually, I don't know, but it seems to have anything to do with guests. As you may have noticed, guests in this forum have their postcount as n/a. The system probably is confused and thinks you guys are guests, but, when seeing that there is a real account under that name, it gets even more confused and put the location and name in the post.

Okay, sorry for posting these things. They are completely useless, and I really do not think it's what's happening. However, it's an idea (and that's why I didn't delete all this junk) and may be noted...

You know, me and a few other people I've seen about all have a similar thing in this. It started when we tried to edit our sigs and Jolt went down. Perhaps we hit the Save thingy at the same time as a forum hiccup and we got screwed by it.

Not saying this is why, but I might as well mention it.

If nothing has been posted, assume 'no.' Crimmond, did you miss the big statement that you should stop posting with broken accounts?
Knootian East Indies

Right. Assuming no then. It would be nice if the 'paid professionals' of Jolt would give some sort of sign that they haven't, in fact, been turned into zombies but I suppose that would be stretching it. (It would take valuable time out of their gallant repair efforts after all.)

Given the timetable they have on fixing the 'reply with quote' button I shan't get my hopes up. :/

No need. There's nothing we can do about it. We've told Jolt, and so we just wait. If there's something to be added, this forum is quiet enough that this thread won't be hard to find.

I'd wager that the biggest reason is that we don't pay Jolt to use their services, therefore we're not exactly on top of the support ladder. The second reason is that they are continuing to have all sorts of forum verification and validation issues, and the continuous stream of emails from us to them hasn't made any sort of an impact. The third reason is that our admins have been busy trying to fix the game for everyone (the Influence addition), and quite honestly haven't had enough free time to address any number of lesser issues. This is a "lesser issue".

Ultimately, we don't have access to any of the relevant code, databases, or what-have-you on the Jolt side. Our sole outlet is the complaint email to Jolt admins. Despite that, I think we're getting more than our [non-monetary valuta]-worth out of the arrangement, if the only real complaint is a n/a instead of a post count. Yeah, I'd like to see it fixed too, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

That isn't true actually. It isn't just that the post count is not displayed, nations affected are unable to edit their posts after they have been posted. This is rather highly annoying, and for me it means that posting with Knootoss is just impractical.

The non-displaying of my signature is also... pretty sucky.

Very practically, the inability for me to edit my posts means that I cannot edit my sticky post on the first page of the nationstates forum to update it with new ships.

We have beaten this with a stick until it's mashed and pulpy, and nobody has any idea how to fix it. Salusa and Pythagasaurus have each had turns at it. Keith and some of the other Jolt admins have had a look. All I can tell you is that the forums have a ton of other problems, and it's probably related to some of them as well.

Unfortunately, we're not in a position to purge the databases or run a routine to delete all corrupt entries. A bunch of player accounts would simply go away, with who-knows-what effects.

I'm sorry, but I think you're stuck with puppet posting. As for your sticky, if you want to use Knootian East Indies or some other puppet to maintain it, just make a copy and repost it. One of us will be happy to de-sticky the old and sticky the new. I'll even send your the formatted code via TG or email if you'd like. You'll lose the 669 replies, of course, but you can link to the old thread. Might be nice to start fresh.

:/

Well, that sucks rather badly. As for the sticky, well, I am willing to pick up maintaining it. However, as I am still banned from #NS it might be preferable of Doc or someone took over. The original idea behind the sticky being mine is that I hosted the files, too. I dont anymore, for the most part.

Point being, I like having a sticky, but if someone else wants to take it over I would understand.

And, if you will allow me, damnit. Posting with Knootian East Indies really sucks. Badly. >_<.
