Is there a way to add a subsription other than going to the thread and clicking on thread tools?
That does not seem to be working for me...

Yea, you can do it the hardway. Look at the thread number on the url, and delete everything after forums2.jolt.co.uk/ and before the thread number and insert in its stead subscription.php?do=addsubscription&t= .
