I've done all the searching I can, and don't know how to access my own prior telegrams. Am I missing something, or is this a little quirk everybody knows about but me?

How do you mean? Ones you have sent or deleted aren't saved. Your TG inbox only contains those which you have received and haven't deleted.

Also, it only saves up to 15 Telegrams. So if you're getting close to the limit you should copy them over to Wordpad or something to preserve them.
