Issues and telegrams should be accessible via RSS.
Just my two cents.

That would require a radical rewriting of the game source code, which isn't going to happen.
Your best bet is to advise this to be part of NationStates 2

Actually, it wouldn't require radical rewriting of the game code at all. Please don't speak about the technical aspect of the game unless you're sure.
The reason that I haven't done it (I think that it's a neat idea) is security. I haven't figured out how to do it securely.

I'm sorry for being uninformed with this, but may I ask what RSS is?

RSS is a system that allows you to get "feeds" from news and other updated sources. When a source is updated, it will show up in your mail application or browser, if you have it set up that way. That way you don't have to go all the way to the address just to check for updates.
I really don't know how it works, just wanted to help.

in the settings, allow people to "register" an ip or dns which is checked against the ip of a user who attempts to access an RSS feed...
that'd be the only "secure" way of doing it...

Impractical and would not work for many of our players.

Ah, well I was under the impression that any feature that required new code was pretty much not allowed. If it doesnt require anything drastically new... well... your call :-)
But, I still think he should ask for it be included in NS2.
