Is there a way to put someone on ignore? How would I do that?

sorry for the dumb question but I am technically inept.

thanks in advance for the help. ;)

The way I would do it (if there's a simpler way, the mods will correct me) is:

1. go to profile (top left bar, under the NS banner);
2. go to 'Buddy/Ignore lists', under 'Miscellaneous' - the second option in the third box down;
3. type in the name(s) exactly, and 'Update'.

What happens if I put someone on ignore? Do their posts become invisible or something?

I think: when you are logged in, their posts will not appear to you. But yours do appear to them, still.

That must seriously fuck around with debates, RPs et cetera.

But so does someone so enraging another that the debate/RP descends to flaming.

In general, most NSers consider a technical ignore a last option, precisely because it can be disruptive. In general, you should try to ignore someone manually. Sarzonia's guide (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=407062) is mainly for RPers, and is not canon, but is a useful starting point.

That said, if someone's every word is so annoying that you might be drawn into violating a rule, ignore might be the only option. Also, (and once more, this isn't anything official) I believe there have been mod rulings on ignore-gloating as being a violation, so you shouldn't really go waving it about that you've used the function having done so.

One of the saddest things about being modded was having to clear my Ignore List.

Thank you. Worked beautifully.

The person isn't breaking any rules and has no idea that they are even annoying me (as I have had the self restraint not to reply at all.) but my self control is wearing thin, so I thought the best way for me to stay out of trouble was to ignore said person.
