The banners on this site are bad, but if you got an x-rated banner I would suggest you already had that cookie on your computer from when you were getting porn pictures for the Babes Thread.

Eutrusca just go in using the Administration option, you will be able to delete it from there. Or look up the name of the worm on the net and you should find a page on the net that will tell you how to clean it . There is always a way to get those pesky things off your puter.

ANTIVIR (http://www.free-av.com/) There ya go. It's free. It's easy to use. It kicks some virus ass. I've been a 3 year user, and have never been let down. It completely locks the computer if a virus is detected trying to install, and it gives you options to 1)delete 2)quarantine 3)ignore
~EDIT~ It will also remove existing virus's. (viruses, virusi ?)

I've never seen an X-rated banner on Jolt either. That would point to it probably not coming from here. Unsafe surfing habits, such as viewing porn, downloading music and programs, opening e-mail attachments can let trojans onto your computer.

A good firewall, a good spyware package, and a good antivirus are a must.

Give Counterspy a try. They give a 15 day trial, and can be found at www.sunbelt-software.com . I tried them because they got a good write-up in PC Magazine, and ended up buying the full version -- it kills things Ad-Aware and Spybot : Search and Destroy can't even see.

Edit: Just checked. The virus and banner ads only appear in Eut's threads. Get rid of the virus, Eut. Please.

I've got a suspected trojan, the forums just autoprompted a download from ax.web-nexus.net , and it's an installer.exe. I'm nuking it, just thought you'd like to know.

(ie, it prompted for me to download something, no idea what the ad was, I was moving quickly through the forums)

Second one. Most definitally something coming from NS

Nope. I didn't get the virus either.

Imo it sucks getting a virus. A damn hassle to clean up especially if their really malicious one's that farks up your computer and you'll need to spend days formating and reinstalling stuff.

Might be from your "Handphone Porn" website. :p

That's if you're stupid enough to NOT block the ads. And/or click on the stinkin' flashing ads in the first place. I use Firefox and I have no issues. In fact, I did an ad-scan yesterday and came up with nothing, my previous being 23 days before yesterday.

It's safer to the average user because it automatically has stuff blocked out which IE automatically lets in, not to mention all the tracking cookies. Use IE for an hour, dozens of tracking cookies, use FireFox for months on same sites, maybe 2 of them?

Get Firefox + Adblock plugin!
That is assuming you don't update Firefox and thus leave vulnerabilities in it. Adblock stopped working several versions ago.

Really no need to block flash. My anti virus (ANTIVIR) does a great job of realtime monitering. The link is posted earlier in this thread. Best virus protection ever! I think it's a dutch or swedish company?

I amended the post you quoted. It links to an article that shows that firefox actually has MORE vulnerabilitys than I.E. now. AND more published vulnerabilitys. As the title suggests, "The honeymoon is over"

Everything is up to date with me. And if adblock doesn't work - make sure it isn't disabled. If it is, there is half your problem because the version I have works and there are no issues with the 1.0.6 version of firefox and the Adblock v.5.

I find that irrelevant in general. If I run IE for a month and go to the same sites I do with Firefox then run all my Anti-Spyware and virus programs, I guarantee you I will find 10x as much virii (well 0 * 10, isn't 10 but you get the idea) and spyware than if I use Firefox for a month.

Unknown spyware and adware on your computer could over-ride baners on web sites to porn and/or x-rated web sites. I would run a check on your computer using any and all adware/spyware programs you could find, including the program that Kat mentioned.

I use Internet Explorer, but I also have Norton Internet Security, Microsoft's Anti-Spyware software, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware. When I run scans (usually once a week, maybe more than that if the lappy is acting funny) all they usually pick up are the already tattered carcasses of some pathetic adware, at worst. All Norton ever finds is the occasional adware bits it is trained to recognize; I have not yet had an actual virus.
Additionally, Norton Internet Security eats all the ads in the NS skin on Jolt; it even goes so far as to scrub the ads out of AIM and MSNIM. It's a very zealous program.

Yep. It's the Java/openstream and Java/byteVerify trojans. I've gotten it dispite refusing to allow any downloads (although apparantly it is non active until you do allow one), and that's with a few antivirus programs running watch. I'd suggest antivirus scans by all members of the boards...

If this is a Jolt problems, where are the dozens of other complaints about this, then? Surely not EVERYONE who plays this game uses Firefox. Some of them should be screaming too. While we don't have a lot of control over the banner ads from Jolt, they've been VERY good in the past about screening advertisers. If they had some advert that placed viruses on user's computers, the shouting would be non-stop.

Simple fact is, there are lots of trojans that hide in the background and piggyback on other sites to hide their origins. You've probably gotten one of those, and now it's picking up crap from elsewhere while you are viewing Jolt pages.

Given only a single infected complaintant and a pair of others with apochryphal evidence, I'd say the evidence doesn't support your claim. If anyone else gets the notice, make a note of EXACTLY what it says and what banner is showing. Until then, there's not a lot we can do.

See the picture up above? It's stopped now, but there isn't any other place I've been since my last sweep that would cause a trojan (slashdot, mydd, dailykos, etc)

No, what I meant was what you said, Eutrusca was obviously starting to use porn images (clean ones relatively), and it appears some sort of hijack got onto his system while he was looking for images and that is what is hijacking his banner.

I could reccomend half a dozen things to use which I use.
Microsoft Anti-Spyware
Spybot S&D
Spyware Blaster
Lavasoft Ad-Aware
AVG Anti-virus

I just used search to view the last 2 pages worth of Eut-started threads... As has been said many times before... my XPsp2 shows absolutely nothing that isn't g-rated for a banner ad. I also get no popups, or security warnings, or install prompts...

I seriously reccomend using either 1) A spyware checker/deletor or 2) Take to an anti-spywhere PC Shop like 'Teletechie' to take care of it
