Technical help needed in joining UN

Howdy. I've been directed here by a seasoned NS player to get help in my application to join the UN.

I first applied about a week ago, and received a telegram saying that my nation was accepted, and would receive a confirmation email shortly. That confirmation email never arrived. There's nothing wrong with my mailbox, and it has no spam filters in place that would reject the email. Matter of fact, it is the same email I joined under, and has proven capable of receiving NationStates emails before (and since).

So far I've reapplied two more times and now I haven't even received so much as a telegram indicating my status. I have also tried changing my email addy, but I changed it back when still no confirmation email came through. I still await my confirmation email.

Can some moderator here help my nation achieve UN member status, please?

I´m not a mod, but all I have to say is be patient and check your junkmail/bulkmail folder.

Even if you´ve recieved NS mails before they can still get filtered. I remember having trouble with the UN when I joined... but that was about a year ago now so I can´t remember any details.

Yes, I've checked bulk and junk mail folders as well. Nothing appearing anywhere. I'm confounded as to how this could be on my end, seeing as I've used more than one email to test the problem.

You appear to have an AOL tag on your email. AOL is notorious for blocking random NS emails, which don't show up in your spam or other folders. I have actually seen documentation from AOL internal memos that 70% of all mail sent to that domain never finds its way to a client mailbox.

Change your email address to some other provider (gmail, yahoo, etc. ... but not hotmail, which has similar issues), and it will probably work.

Yeah, I have both Yahoo and Gmail and they both kick ass. Figuratively speaking, of course.

It's good to see you back, Fris. I heard you were on "medical leave", so I was wondering what had happened to you. :)

I'm still on quasi-leave. I've got an extremely painful affliction that makes it difficult to sit at the computer for more than a few minutes, but I pop in when I can. [/off-topic]

AOL is still the lobotomized bastard step-child of the internet (http://www.jokeaday.com/aol1mm.htm) and should be avoided by all serious netizens. C'mon, people. Get a REAL ISP.

Hey, I couldn't agree more, however it's not my choice to be on AOHell, but a requirement of circumstances at the moment. Trust me, I know what a piece of crap this ISP is. Thanks for the info, but perhaps you didn't see where I did change my email addy (yes, to a non-AOHell one) and still received no confirmation email?

I'll change it one more time... but I don't see what will be different.

I'm on yahoo, and got the confirmation email, but when I try to verify my email
"Uh-oh
Your email verification failed. Please check to ensure that you have copied the entire URL to the locaton bar in your browser.
If you continue to have problems. Please submit a getting help request." comes up.
Any suggestions?

That's your forum verification email, and it worked, despite the apparent failure. (you posted, didn't you?). This thread is about UN membership, a different though somewhat related issue. Next time, start a new thread.

Well, this time the change of email seemed to stick, so all is well. Inscrutable, but hey, so is the UN, eh?
