Let's say I joined the U.N, and for example, chemical weapons were banned. Then I left. In the game's eyes, would chemical weapons still be banned?

As I understand it, it depends on timing.

Your national stats are only affected by those UN resolutions passed while you're actually in the UN. So, if you joined now, chemical weapons wouldn't 'become banned' in your country, as far as the coding was concerned. If a Ban Chemical Weapons resolution was passed while you were in the UN, your stats would change (probably a decrease in defence spending). If you then left, those stats would not change back. And, if you rejoined the UN before or after a Repeal was passed, your stats still would not change.

That's my unofficial understanding of what happens. Clearly, wait for a mod to give you a definitive answer.

I thought you can't leave the UN?
It says so in rule #11 in Game Related Input in "The Technical Forum" topic:
"Disbanding the UN
Won't happen. If you don't like the UN, don't join them, ignore their existence and never visit the UN forum to spout your garbage how much you hate them and the proposals that come up. It only makes you an easy target for ban happy moderators."

That's why I'm not joining the UN.

Disband has nothing to do with being unable to quit, or being immune from being barred. It means you can dissolve the UN. You can't make the UN cease to exist. You can't delete the UN from the game, etc.

You can be banned from the UN but only if you break the rules.
