I'm confused...

Hello, I'm new around here, and already I seem to be 31,337th in the world for Largest Basket Weaving Sector, though I thought this a good thing, it seems to have more or less promoted a large problem. The problem being there is another 110,814 nations in the Basket Weaving Sector, and I have no way to see who is next to my self... so, I was wondering if their was anything to help me see where my nation is, and where those who are close to me as well. Because, I don't think I will ever find where I am by simply clicking through the 11002 pages there are of nations. Just wondering as well, do many of these nations stay active more then a week?

I think not, but I'm not sure.
The mods have previously said that there won't be refinements made to the search function. There is a way to scroll through all nations, but it's in alphabetical order, not UN ranking order. You say you're 31337th (which is an awesome number - you know, leet and...oh nevermind) - I think the only way to find out who's 31,336th is to just go through, which obviously takes a long time.
It may be that others have suggestions as to how you can fiddle the search so that you can find out what you're looking for.

And the stickies above this thread gave us the answer:
The nation search system stinks! Can't we add an index or tabs or something?
No. Not techncially possible at this time. However, there is an alternative. Move your nation search out of the main frameset. (Shift-click on List all nations). Once there, advance to Page 2 to bring up this URL
http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=list_nations/start=15By manually changing the /start=### number, you can advance thousands of nations instantly. A little judicial guesswork will get you into the right neighborhood in 3 or 4 guesses, and then you can advance the page numbers manually to find what you seek.

Yes, but doesn't that idea just do it in alphabetical order? I didn't know you could use that to list nations in order of UN ranking.

I never thought of that, but I tried it and it works.

I don't understand. How can you get it to list nations in order of UN ranking? I've never managed that - because the 'The World' pages all seem to be the same page. I can only use that search function to search alphabetically.

Go to your nations homepage, right click on 'The World' and open in a new window. The nations are ranked just like in the UN ranking.

Yes, but the original point was whether one could quickly to the countries in the 31,000 region. To do that would take awfully long using the clicking through on 'The World'. The search method you quoted is a way of quickly searching through - but as far as I know can only be used for alphabetical order.

http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=world/start=31330
The nation that is before you (31336) is Rotovia-
The nation that is after you (31338) is Mennizar

Wow, thanks for all the help, and, how do you get that?

I am a webdesigner by hobby... I can figure out based on one feature, how to mod a different feature.

And, like I tried, can also be used for the UN rankings. :p

Thanks for clearing that up for me too - I was getting confused as well.
