I think this is the right place for this.
Who decided to name the starter regions different variants of "the pacific"?

I think the credit of that one would go to a Mr. Max Barry. Or else, it might even be [violet] or SalusaSecondas (I think I spelt that right).
If anything they should have made it "The Eastern Middle East" or something of that sorts, since life started around the Middle East (notibly around Iran and Iraq).
I am guessing they thought "Hey, the Pacific covers a lot of area." And wala.
I betcha though Mr. Barry thought of it.

The latter is unlikely, given that Salusa only became an admin some time after the game had been going. I think it's safe to assume that it was Max Barry's idea.

SalusaSecondas (I think I spelt that right)Very close... it is a U, not an A for the last vowel (SalusaSecondus).
Just thought I'd let ya know (though, that was better than I did without lookin it up... I just call him Sal!)

I would assume that names such as that weren't used because this is a political simulation game, which tends to stay away from RL references, at least in the beginning. Personally, if I were to start a political simulation game online, I would want to create a whole new 'world', rather than copying ours.
I would agree, but then again, I don't think Barry and his crew wold have thought this would take off like it did. As if the world had been deprived of its some million + people demand for a national RPG, with a type-do interface on the forums.
Then again, he could have made it thinking the Pacifics would only be filled until it became less popular (since the Pacific is the largest mass on Earth). With the ability to create different regions, some not even on Earth, and most not even Earth-like, probably was his idea. Have the Pacifics as a starting place....eh, I dono, I am rambling now.
We need Mr. Barry in here to stamp out the truth! Raise petition to hear his voice!

I suggest we keep it in mind, and ask at the next MaxChat.

You know, I ask a simple question and now we are getting a position to hear from Max himself on this? I am so amazing. How do I enrage people like this?
But sticking with the mainstream topic, when was Lazarus and the Rejected Realms introduced? I know I could look through the updates but they way he says it is so boring.

Originally, nations were spawned in 'The South Pacific'. Since this was coded in from day one, there wasn't a chance for someone to have set up a region as there were none. Perhaps Max is a fan of musicals.
As the population grew, it was decided to expand the number of spawning regions. Since we already had 'The South Pacific', it made sense to add North, West, East, and "Central". I believe that while there were nations in regions with those names, the total population was something around 20. We had around 70k nations at the time, so they kinda had their regions yanked out from under them. However, this was before we had Founders, and none of them were Delegates, so the loss for them was minimal.
I'm pretty sure the additional Pacifics were [violet]'s idea.

I would think that the reasoning behind dumping everyone in the various Pacifics when they start out could be because of how many tiny new countries there are in that area of the real world. Countries you never heard of, with a population of three, are all over the place on tiny little islands. Makes sense, really, to dump you there when you start out.
