Population growth

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but how does population growth work? I'm fairly new to NS, and I've seen that my nation grows one million per day (it currently has 10 million inhabitants as of the time of this post), but I've been wondering how much did the growth rate increased as a nation grew. I mean, if it remained the same, 4-billion nations wouldn't be possible since they would've have to be founded over 10 years ago!

Anyway, thanks in advance for your response. :)

I think you only get 1 milion a day until you hit 10 million. Right now im getting around 12 million people a day, so I think it gets bigger with age.

Not nessasarily. I believe that the values which nations can grow at have all been pre-determined by the Nationstates Administration, although I could be wrong. Each update, the algorithm randomly selects from a group of possibilities your population might be for the next 'stage', meaning that same age nations might not have have exact populations -- although they will be extremely near.

In the meantime, the actual growth a nation account might experience varies from time to time (sometimes its one million, sometimes its twelve million, sometimes less/more). For example, nations approaching 3 Billion might appear to grow slower than those approaching 4 Billion... and visa versa -- a nation approaching 5 Billion might appear to grow faster than one approaching 4 Billion. Age doesnt guarrentee growth rate in any form -- although many speculate that once a nation reaches a certain age/size they will slow down to allow the younger nations to catch up.

There is little one can do to affect population growth themselves. Issues do not affect the population at all (Yes, even those Birth Control issues)... and as far as I know the only way a population can be affected would be by complete accident... and by making use of a bug in the game called the Population Bug -- See the FAQ.

Yeah, I think the population growth starts at 1 mil a day until you get to about 10, then 2 til 50, etc etc etc until you hit like 12 million... then just holds steady.

I have 3725 mil people, played for 630 days...

so that is an average of 5.9 mil a day... so that makes some logical sence; like was said, it varies a bit, but usually holds around 6-12 in my experience.

Oh, just a quick side note... I've checked about 10 of my 15 nations, all ranging between almost 4 bil and about 500 mil... all have an average around 5-7 a day, hope that helps

EDIT: Oh, and Wingarde, can you shrink your sig a bit? It can be 8 lines of default text size (including blank lines) and yours shows as 11 on mine with over-the-average text size.

It's one million a day for the first few days then after that there's been ranges of 5-7 and 8-10 million a day suggested...

One million from 5 to 10 million, after that it's 5-7 million until you hit the 50 million and then it goes 7-10 million. That's about it. :p

There, I've modified my signature. Sorry, I wasn't aware of that rule. Thanks for the tip. ;)

PS: I've confirmed that once you reach 10 million, your growth rate increases to 2 million per day. Let's see what happens when I hit 20 million...

Growth rate isn't linear.

YMMV, but in over two years of playing (pop 4.8+ billion) I can't recall ever having seen over 7 million per day. Then again, I haven't really been paying close attention to it for a few months.

I have multiple nations, and I remember keeping track of their early growth rates. While I don't remember the specifics, I do remember it took all of those nations 20 days to reach a population of 62 million, and they stopped at all the same points along the way. After that, they appeared to all settle into a growth rate of 5-7 million per day.
