I can't get on to Nationstates!

I have been trying to get onto Nationstates for a week now and everytime I try and go to the site I get a "Cannot find server" message. All of my friends are able to get onto the site on thier computers, but I can't. In fact none of the computers on my network are able to either. I thought maybe it might be a firewall issue but no settings have been changed in the last week and I can't find any place to change it. I have Windows XP with service pack 2.

I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me with this issue.

You don't need to be logged on to NS to access the forums.

Trust me, I've restarted my computer plunty in the past week. That's not the problem. And yes, you don't have to be logged on to Nationstates. I went to jolt.co.uk and clicked the Nationstates forum link to get here. Thanks for trying to help, but I need someone who knows networking stuff to figure this one out.

Try clearing your cookies cache...

If that doesnt work, do you run a firewall of somesort? Check that nationstates.net hasnt been blocked for various reasons.

I tried deleting all of my cookies and that didn't work. But like I said none of the computers on my network can get on to NS, so it can't be that. Is there a certain port I need to have my router open in order to get on to NS?

What kind of network do you have? Is it at work or a school?

what firewall do you have? are you using the M/S firewall in SP2? If not, is it switched off as you may be running an additional F/W at the same time as the windows F/W, which may cause issues?

If you're networking, what is hapenning with the internet gateway? Do you have any control of the network (i.e. - is it at home or at school/work/etc.)?
Are you running a software firewall on the pc and have a hardware firewall acting as your gateway? This can again cause issues.

Have you installed anything new or altered anything at all?

Do you regularly maintain your computer - see my Web-Fu post on my blog at:
http://gamerfuzz.blogspot.com
second one down when posted here)?

Are you using a hub within the network - what kind?

There's any number of things it could be and we haven't really got alot of info. to go on. My first reaction is that it's a F/W issue, but that could well be wrong. If you have no control over the network you really should be talking to the network admin. You may find he/she's blocked it on the hardware F/W because he/she doesn't want people playing games at work/school/wherever. If you have control of the network - it can be sorted.

hope this is of some help ;)

It could be that your ISP has changed DNS servers, and they haven't fully repopulated. Try accessing NS via IP directly, 213.208.119.243. If that works, chances are that the typed URL will work later.

Okay, sorry I haven't been able to get on for a while but here is some more information.

I have a Home network, I can not access Nationstates on any of the five computers. I have a Windows service pack 2 firewall on my computer. I have a Linksys Wireless router for my network, and a Actiontec DSL gateway. I am not able to access NS through the IP address. Although I'm not sure I did it right. I just typed in into the address bar. I altered nothing before I had the problem. My ISP is Sisna and I have been trying to contact them about this issue but have recieved no reply so far.

I hope this information is helpful. If you think you can help but need more info just ask. I will try and check up on this thread more often.

File a Getting Help request with specific information about your external IP address (the one your ISP assigned you). You've probably gotten slapped with an IP ban that was intended for someone else, but we need to know more details than you have provided.

Don't post it here - use the confidentiality of Getting Help.

Isn't the getting help page tied onto the game as well? I mean; If you are accidentally IP banned, you can't get to getting help either, right? Personally I think he might be getting better response emailing Salusa himself. Sorry, I don't have it here.

Yeah, ignore Fris this time around. Normally he's very good, but he isn't quite up on how our IP bans work.

No, you haven't been IP banned. I've checked your IP (I can get it from the forums).
Anyway, being IP banned looks different. I'm not sure what is wrong, but it's with your ISP and there is really nothing that we can do about it. Sorry.

Don't give up yet. I have had that too. Not on Nationstates, but on everything of my own forum. I simply switched browsers for a few days, and suddenly the problem was solved. I seriously thought I was IP banned from my own forum :)
Glitches can be very mysterious. Sometimes switching accounts on your own computer works too.

And the point of posting this, when there have been at least five other topics noting this, including one that is a sticky ...was?

Okay, thanks for all of the help you guys have tried to give me. I will try harder to contact my ISP.
