Signatures question

Majeristan

I looked through the Sarzonian Constitution (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=330340) thread to see if there were any comments or what have you, but I noticed something strange. I have signatures turned on for Majeristan, but when I access the early part of the thread, I notice there aren't any signatures under Sarzonia or any other player who has posted until 20 August 2004, when Automagfreek's new signature appears under his comment (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=6831884&postcount=20). However, my signature doesn't appear on my posts until one dated 20 September (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=7064699&postcount=23).

Is there some idiosyncracy going on with the show signatures function?

Without looking at the thread in question or turning sigs on, allow me to point out that we moved from NationStates-owned forums to Jolt forums in July 2004.

Posts that were imported into Jolt cannot be searched, despite the fact that they can be surfed to directly. All threads were renumbered. All posts were renumbered. All old links thus failed. Other things might have happened that I didn't notice (not having been a mod at the time), but suffice to say that was a period of great change.

It's highly probable that [violet] and SalusaSecondus made the decision to import the database with sig blocks turned off, just to make things simpler. It's equally probable that the importer (which doubtless was a bit of custom code) lacked the ability to enable sig blocks.

Yeah, that would be an idiosyncracy or two.

We didn't had sigs on the old server.

Furthermore, a signature isn't retroactively appended to posts.

In other words, if I created a puppet, logged on, and posted 10 times with no sig, they (obviously) wouldn't have one. If I then created a sig, those original 10 posts still wouldn't have my sig. While a new sig always trumps an old one, if there wasn't one in the first place, there won't be one.
