Great debates

I don't know why this hasn't been done already- it's very possible that there's some rule or regulation that I'm missing.
But would it be possible to have a new forum for Great Debates, as in proper debates on politics, philosophy, morals and styles of government. The problem in general chat is that it's too unspecialised and you can never be sure whether you're getting into a serious debate or not- and a lot of the time things go spiriling off topic.
Which can be interesting and really funny...
but thats not the point.
yeah, so I'm asking can there be a serious section for debating with slightly stricter rules then in GC.
Thanks,

Oft suggested, oft denied. We're fine with the current structure of the forums.

If you want more serious debate, go here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1038
It's another forum within Jolt that is titled "Serious Discussions".

Yeah but it would be nice to debate with people that we already know from nation states on topics that may have got started on other threads,
It can't be that hard to try- or at least to take a poll on what other people think.
There are lots of new threads posted on GC everyday- which is great, but makes it difficult to find threads you've started a debate in and want to continue with more then a throwaway remark.
General chat is such a wide category that surely it can't hurt to split it up a little bit. Can it?
btw, what are the objections to having a new forum- and its working the way it is doesn't count :(

It's working the way it is.
Seriously, we haven't had a problem with it before. There are many serious discussions that take place. Threads that downgrade themselves to flaming/flamebaiting occur in any forum really. If a serious discussion forum were created, the same thing would happen.

We own the game, but not the forums. Changing the way the forums are set up would involve Jolt, wihch is always extra effort, and more than we really want to put into it.
