income tax, bug ?

My income taxes are at 100% now for some reason.

How did this happen? Occasionally I increase budget for defense, but I was under the impression - by experience really - that it took a long time for taxes to change, especially for older nations with a long history of no income tax.

I know for sure they were 'unheard of' as of a few days ago. Unheard of to 100%!? Is that a bug, or some brilliant miracle-gro income tax issue I mistakenly answered?

Edit: Also on NSEcon (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=santa+barbara) it lists for Consumption (formerly the biggest number there) now at $-0.03

Now I know NSEcon is different but it does use NS stats, surely going from a huge capitalist consumer to negative three cents private sector virtually overnight is due to this same bug...

It is very strange when anything changes that drastically for a nation as large as yours. Do you keep track of your stats at thirdgeek or Pipian? If so, were there any bizarre changes in your budget or GDP data?

I see. You were editing while I was posting.

I don't really keep track of them, but I do check every so often to make sure I'm not going communist. 1% income tax is a cause for alarm!

As for bizzare changes well, nothing aside from suddenly having turned communist overnight. The numbers for government budget and waste are skyrocketed and GDP per capita has plummeted... and that last, I checked like yesterday. But all that is undoubtedly the result of this mysterious 100% tax.

It's like commie hackers took over or something. *cries*

Maybe it was a revolution ;). If there is no help - treat it as a challange!

For the record:

The Corporate Anarchy of Santa Barbara

"Post-Governmental Socioeconomic Supremacy"

UN Category: Anarchy
Civil Rights: Superb
Economy: Frightening
Political Freedoms: Superb

Location: The Tradelands

The Corporate Anarchy of Santa Barbara is a massive, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.488 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, liberal, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Automobile Manufacturing.

The land is famous throughout the region for its rampant lawlessness, territories have the right to secede if they aren't happy, houses and businesses are bulldozed to make way for ever-expanding cemetaries, and the army's shirt ninjas are the most feared assassins in the region. Crime is crippling. Santa Barbara's national animal is the extinct panda, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the trade credit.

Santa Barbara is ranked 52nd in the region and 115,963rd in the world for Most Devout Nations.

Here's your last twenty issues:

'60', '166', '130', '17', '54', '46', '180', '186', '184', '182', '181', '183', '187', '188', '144', '189', '87', '110', '67', '146'

If you look in the Got Issues? forum, you can see what these were, and maybe see how they could have affected your tax rate.

Your tax rate is based on numerous things, including the size of your government. It could be that your military has simply grown too large to exist on a low tax rate.

My regional Delegate, NewTexas, has had a similar problem, which I suspect is due to his insane amount of spending on Law and Order while being an Anarchy. :D

I've been helping him with the issues to get his tax rate down, but it's slow going and will probably take several months. *sigh*

That sounds like an overflow bug of some sort to me. Could be that the game tried to add to an integer that was already close to the maximum value (or subtract from an integer close to the minimum value), so it wrapped around to the other extreme.

I'll check... but it doesn't help that I have no idea what the effects of issues options are.

And I still don't see how any issue effects could SUDDENLY (within a day or two) change an income tax for a large NS from one end of the spectrum to the exact far opposite. I thought there was a cumulative factor at work here, particularly for large NS's with gazillions of issues already answered. That's why, presumably, it'll take me months to get back to zero percent... and I'm not going to bother if there's some unexplainable thing that can cause you to go commie overnight.

Also re: government size, I've answered issues in a way that decreases government size - same as I always have. That's why my administration, heatlh, spirituality, welfare, and environment budget allocations are still at 0, and the education, commerce and defense all seem about the same. Defense has always been at around 60-62%. The only thing that's changed is that massive income tax change, which is now corresponding to a "omnipresent" government description (was up til today "no government in the normal sense of the word, but a community of" individuals blah blah).
