An idea for the NSUN

It has been a recent practice that nations will propose repeals for resolutions in the hope that a newer, and stronger one would be passed. Unfortunately, this practice is dangerous to say the least.

I am proposing that we have a system similar to repeals called the "rewrite" or "revision" tool. It would work like the repeal tool, and I imagine all the coding would be very similar, only instead of eliminating a resolution, it rewrites it. Such a rewrite would of course have to be approved by the UN, and even if its not passed, it allows the old resolution to still be intact.

Thank You for reading this, and taking your time to consider it.

This was all hashed out during the decision to implement repeals, and (IIRC) Max and the Admins decided it just plain couldn't be coded with any real sensibility. Consequently, they went with the Repeal function as the only viable alternative.

Ain't gonna happen, I can say with 99.44% assurance.

Its still a disturbing trend to see repeals on resolutions based solely on the idea that "my idea is better" and having no guarantee of passage.

Yeah, it would be sweet to rewrite proposals than to have to restart the whole process 2 times (repeal and re-proposal)... And it could fail, too... :(

exactly! someone is getting my point here! :D Even if we could write a proposal that accomplishes both a repeal, and a new resolution in one proposal, I'd be OK with that. Right now all we have in the repeals is a promise that a better proposal will be written, with no guarantee of passage. I'm looking into the legality of something that might be a nice stop-gap for the time being, but for sure, this practice is far to dangerous for our liking.

The problem being that any such 'stop-gap' resolution could easily be accused of being an ammendment, and as such illegal. Snoogit, you've got the official mod answer, so I'd suggest just leaving it - this won't be changed without major recoding of the game itself, which is not going to happen unless something serious requires it (eg a virus destroying huge chunks of the game code, which then need to be re-written from scratch - and even that isn't likely, most people would just call it a day at that point).

I got your point too. I've spent a year and a half answering this question. I'm tired of this question. Search through some of the pre-July 04 threads here, in Moderation, and in UN. You'll see it asked several thousand times. And no, that's not an exaggeration.

'Repeals" is the short answer that completely describes the technical solution that resolved the amendment problem. The issue is closed.
