Do repeals change the stats of UN nations? I seem to remember that they do, but I need confirmation.

Yea, of course they do. A repeal is nothing more than a resolution strking out the older resolution. I'm pretty sure that a repeal would have the opposite effects as the original resolution.

However, I am not sure if only nations that were effected (affected?) by the original resolution are effected (affected?) by the repeal.

Yes, absolutely. The negate all effects of the resolution that they repealed. No, they don't. Please be CERTAIN of the facts before using terms like "absolutely."

http://www.nationstates.net/news/2004/09/23/index.html#repealsIf a repeal is passed by the full UN, the original resolution is stricken from the record and no longer binding on UN member nations. In practical terms, this has an effect on UN member nations similar to the original resolution, but in reverse and milder. However, I am not sure if only nations that were effected (affected?) by the original resolution are effected (affected?) by the repeal. All current UN member nations will be affected by the repealing of a resolution, whether they were members when the original was passed or not. This may change in the future, if people seem outraged enough by it, but for practical reasons--we have no record of which nation was in the UN when any given resolution was passed--this it how it works for now. Enjoy!

But Fris just showed you that you're wrong based on other threads...

He's not entirely wrong. They do have an effect, it's just a milder reversal.

I understand that Vastiva; I was pointing out the error in the statement Jjuulliiaann still made by claiming for "certain" that he was right.

Never denied that. But here's what you said:

Yes, absolutely. : This implies complete certainty that EVERYTHING you are stating is correct

The : assume you meant "they"

negate : reverse would have been better. They don't necessarily negate unless the nation is exactly the same as it was when the resolution was originally passed

all effects : this is the biggie. They do NOT reverse all, but only a portion

of the resolution that they repealed. : this much is correct

Language is important, J. You didn't use it correctly, and your response was incorrect in several important particulars.

I didn't have to use any secret mod powers to find the truth. It's printed right there on the news page. Still on page one. Didn't even have to look in the archives. If you can't be bothered to look up or know offhand the EXACT truth, don't present yourself as an expert. Got it?

Thanks for all the responses. Like I said, I was pretty sure that there was some effect, I just wasn't aware of all the nuance. Thanks everyone.
