The creator of my region has ceased to exist. Who's in control now? And what can you actually do if your in control? Can I get control of the region?

When the Founder of a Region dies, the Delegate of the region gets unlimited access to Regional Control at the next update.

Any UN Member can become a delegate - whoever has the most endorsements in the region at the time of update recieves the position. In a tie, the incumbent, or if none, the longest resident, takes the office.

Regional Control allows a Delegate to change the World Factbook Entry for the region, set a password for access to the region, and ban and unban nations from the region.

Any more questions?

... but does not get unlimited access to Founder powers. Yes, the Delegate can kick/ban/unban, but you do not have the right to kick/ban everyone in the region, or even a significant percentage. You also do not have the right to clear spam from the regional messageboard, as that ability is restricted to the actual Founder nation (NOT! player).

There are some things ONLY a Founder may do, so please don't take Hersfold's post as carte blanche to become a dictator in your region upon assumption of the delegacy. The founder may return at any time, assuming they weren't deleted for rulebreaking. Thus, changes in foundership and granting Founder powers to Delegates aren't normally allowed.

Oops. Sorry about that, Fris, slipped my mind. Yeah, while your access to RC can't be taken away while you're Delegate, you can't go raging all over the place with the ban button, etc.

Since Fris beat me I'm going to correct Hersfold only on the
....gets unlimited access to Regional Control at the next update.

The control of RC transfers to the delegate immediately the founder dies.

Really? I've never seen that in action - most regions I've seen with only one UN nation or with no nations endorsing each other have had no delegate at all...

Edit: How silly of me. "none" referred to the incumbent, of course.

We didn't have a delagate. Endorsments? I don't know who came to the region first. Can you see who's got the power?

I know that's what Sal said way back, but we did some test right after that, and it was the other way around, the nations latest in the xml became delegate. Later, we tried again, because after an invasion, this didn't go this way. We didn't manage to entirely figure out the mechanism, it was not the last, nor the first in the region, but one in between. Very strange. We have a theory nations might have some sort of listed order for this, but not sure...

And of course Sal likes to keep us guessing :p

If you want to know who was in your region longest, you can use the xml feed : http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/regiondata.cgi/region=region_name

Just replace region_name with the name of the region you want to look at. Remember to replace spaces with underscores. The nation mentioned first in the xml is the nation longest in the region without leaving. (So if you hop in and out, you are put in the last place)

If you have no Delegate, and your founder no longer exists, no one in your region has regional control.

Edit: Oh yeah, on endorsements..

UN members can give endorsements to other UN members in the same region. The nation with the most endorsements becomes Delegate as soon as the daily major update reaches the region.

Actually I was just thinking of something along these lines ...

I'd had an idea that you should be able to elect a regional leader, with everyone (UN Member or not) allowed to vote and to gain control of the region. Not much I know, but it would allow for proper democratic regions, should that region's founder want it to become a democratic thing of course ...

But then you have the problem with people using puppets to elect themselves...

You must be in the UN and possess at leats one endorsement to become Delegate.

The link: http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin...ion=region_name didn't work. I'am the only member of UN in the region.

Until / unless somebody else in your region joins the UN (or moves in), you're going to do without. It takes a minimum of two UN members to elect one of them as Delegate.

You need to click the link (don't copy paste it) then, in the address bar, you replace "region_name" woth the actual name of your region.

Not really that important though.

If you want regional control, you'll need to find another member of your region to join the UN, so that nation can endorse you, or you could try and find a UN member from outside your region to endorse you. In the last case you'll be considered an invading Delegate though, because you became Delegate with outside help, and there is a much stricter set of rules for those.

I did replace it with my region name. It didn't work anyway.
