Making my own flag ...

I was thinking about making my own flag. Is there any way that this can be done with MS Paint. If so what type of file do i save it as.

Supposing I cannot do this, is there any way I can take a picture directly from the web?

"Your flag must be:

1. in JPEG (.jpg) format
2. about 107x71 pixels in size
3. no larger than 10KB
4. appropriate. This means conforming to site etiquette and being suitably flag-like. Images likely to cause widespread offense (e.g. nudity, swastikas) are prohibited, and your nation may be deleted if you post them."

I think the image has to be saved on your computer to work.

It doesn't, once it's uploaded, it's on the site.

Sometimes your computer will continue to recognize your old flag, even after you upload your new one. If that happens, press Control + F5, which will force a refresh of the data on your computer.

If you want I can help you with it. I have both Fireworks & Photoshop CS. I am proficient in FW and am alright with PSP.

I used MSPaint.
Although I found that I could save it as a GIF; they are smaller files so you can get bigger flags...

Thank you for the help folks. Thanks for offering to help layarteb, but I would like to do this first flag myself ... just to get the hang of it.

The format description is a bit off on the NS site, these are accepted:

Formats: jpg, jpeg, gif and png.

It's cool I mean if you want me to convert from a BMP to JPEG for you I can. I have the necessary programs.

If you have uploaded a new flag and it still doesnt show up, even after refreshes, try deleting your Internet Files (in IE its Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files...). That's what it took for mine.

Also I think the 107x71 size restriction is bunk. If you can get it under 10KB you can really put anything up. Like my flag, for example.

I know, I have flags that are up to 300 x 200, and I believe you can have more than that.

Note that the 10KB limit is actually less than that in practice. At least in my experience, flags that my computer has claimed to be less than 10KB have been rejected.

Yes, but if they're too insanely huge, they will be deleted.

It has to be bunk because honestly I've seen flags well beyond that size...What would be considered "insanely huge"? I am thinking of modifying mine to be honest.

I don't know the lower boundaries of 'insanely huge', but mine was a very slightly scaled down version of this:

And that was far far too big.

I'd assume the best thing to do would be to just keep it 'reasonable', IE not page-filling.

Yes, that most certainly was. How big is "too big" is largely up to mod judgement. I'd say 300x200 or so is as big as you'd want to go.

Cool, thank you. Should get Fris to put that in that huge sticky he has.
