Is NS killing Jolt?

I had a Jolt account before NS arrived, and it was fine, no problems. And now NS is here, Jolt is slowly dying. It would appear that NS is too much for Jolt to handle. What shall we do?

If Jolt dies, what will happen to NS?

They'll just open an account at another forum elsewhere. The game is not dependent on the forum.

Killing? At the rate it's going, I'd say it's just a case of 'how long do you think it'll be until they bury the servers?'...

Everytime I click on a thread today I get "No Forum Specified". I have to click a thread three or four times, sometimes more, in order to read it.

It's not us. It's the damn crawler-bots from Yahoo and Google and their ilk. Jolt admins have attempted to address it, but it seems the fix was only temporary. Patience - they're working on it.

Everytime I click on a thread today I get "No Forum Specified". I have to click a thread three or four times, sometimes more, in order to read it.Today I clicked on the link to this thread five times.

The first time I got a database error.

The second time, a 500 Internal Server error.

The third time, an "Invalid Thread" error.

The fourth time, a 404 not found error.

The fifth time it worked.

This, plus NS's big crash, Jolt's big crash, and all the other errors, convince me that Jolt is dying, and NS will have to forumjump somewhere else. :(

Perhaps Google is willing to host us, then we can crash their servers as well. :D

But then we wouldn't have to put up with their bots, they wouldn't try to crash their own servers. These Yahoo/Google bots are a pain.

When it's down, try switching to http://forums2.jolt.co.uk
Often enough when one is down, the other will still work.

I thought you couldn't get into 'forums2' any more.

When we kill jolt, we'll just move on to the next server, until we kill it.

Kind of like that never ending party on that one planet in the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. They can't stop us... evar

Ok, I dunno - I think it's damn near impossible for Google to not have enough bandwidth or enough servers to handle any amount of people. Hell, on Gmail, they are CONSTANTLY adding storage space for each individual account - 2184.200715 megabytes (and counting). And I thought I read that they bought a new place for more server storage in the past 6 months.. constantly adding new servers and space.

Note: When adding this post, I had to hit the submit reply button -literally- a dozen times before it stopped giving me the Database error page.

I think we're done with the "Technical" portion of this thread. Take the bitch session to General if you want to continue it.
