Taken from the Rejected Ideas (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=417989) list:
Avatars
It has been promised, but Jolt has some very different thoughts about that. The answer is no. UPDATE: No users other than mods and paying customers are allowed to have avatars.

We NSers aren't allowed Avatars, that's why. The reasoning for this, I believe, is two fold:
The main Jolt users have to pay for the privilege, I think -- why should we be any different?
I think that the strain that all NSers uploading avatars would cause to the already-ailing Jolt servers would likely finally kill them...

Thats odd, because I have a Jolt account for the Freelancer forum and I was allowed to use an Avatar for free. Oh well.

I was under the impression that you had to pay or be above a certain post-count. And I thought they scrapped the post-count bit...
thats just monged, i guess jolt servers have dug themselves into a hole
Well, Jolt hasn't been working too well recently, avatars won't do it much good either.

Just a crazy, off the top of my head, I don't know if it'd work idea, but could our flags be used as avatars?
That is, could Jolt link to our flags on the NS site? It would mean Jolt wouldn't have to host the image files, nor look them over to check they were acceptable.
I don't know how much of a load this would put on NS's servers, which is why I wonder if the idea is workable.
Just a moment's idle speculation. ;)

as I understand we are really putting a strain on the Jolt Servers, mainly with our RP forums, Hence why all EP RP is on the EP forum.

Since Jolt hosts the game, they'd still be hosting the images. Avatars cost a lot of money, as every post a person makes requires the image to be sent. When you're talking millions of posts, it quickly adds up.
