My homepage is NationStates, and it auto logs into my account. Today I noticed something odd. My nation name is now the "0 of 0". Everything that is usually a variable is now "0". Somehow, I log into the forums fine. Search for the nation "King Binks" in the world page, and you will see what I mean. It shows my nation as no longer existing, although it was never deleted, and in its place is this "0 of 0."

Having same problem, won't let me log into my nation, but log in works here, tells me "incorrect password" and that I didn't give email when I started nation. I know I did, and password working here....hellppppp!!!!!

A little I guess, at least I can still post. And I have faith it will go away or be fixed somehow. I am proud in some odd way, that it happened to me.

oh it's so irritating! I was looking at just random nations in the west pacific and I tried to go back to mine, but it was like "nation 0 of 0" and there was like, an invalid picture.. Is there something wrong with the programming of the site? Because if its happening to more than one person then there's a glitch in the system that Barry programmed. Anybody tried emailing him and asking him what the heck is going on?

it's happening to me too, all the sudden, i was going through my issues, and suddenly there were none, and my nation became completely centrist :(

Same thing happened to my nation Saige Dragon. Logged into my puppet fine, but after sending a message to the mods or whoever my puppet is now located in the region of 0 all by itself. I'm thinking this is wither the work of hacker or a program error.

I am another victim of the same problem. It's so annoying. I use Firefox.

I think it only affected the people with auto-login, that's why certain nations still exist. That would explain why we can log in with 2nd nations, and why only the 9th nation in the Top 10 list is "0".

phew..I thought it was me...I had just voted on an issue and boom, I become 0 of 0 and everything is all screwed up. Hopefully its a simple fix. I was just under 1 billion as well. Dont use auto-login, do use firefox.

I think its just a "world wide" glitch.

Is anyone else having the problem of logging in? I mean, on the NS. I logged out of NS then tried to log back in thinking that'd fix the glitch. It didn't. Said my password was invalid. So I tried to have it emailed to me. Which didn't work either, saying I didn't provide a email (which obviously I did to post here).

Then thinking someone hacked into my account somehow I went around changing the password for her (I half expected to see "User doesn't exsist" when I got her).

Oh might webmasters, please fix this ASAP!!!

If your already logged in but your region says 0, no point in trying to move to another region and hope it goes away because i tried searching for Alberta and all I got was 0. :headbang:

I also am having this problem it either sends me to country 0 or it says I have the wrong password. when I try to send my password to myself it tells me I Have not set an email address (I have) I can not log into saphora on the forums either. My other country (this one) seems to be ok. Any help would be great nytetears69 at yahoo dot com

they're also talking under the "what happened" thread and this guy said that he could log back in, and that it only momentarily glitched for him

Going into Zandee with my founder nation i found Furry Wombats had been deated and so had another nation (which wasn't mine).

What's a really bad sign is that I was able to unsuccessfully attempt a login some four, five, or six times. The system should have locked me out after three failed tries.

The end of the world is here :eek: .....oh wait it's just here......guess I'll try again later and see if they got it fixed.....glad I'm not only one having problems anyway.

As I'm sure we've all discovered thus far, this is not an isolated event. My nation is now at "0" located at "0"

I think there are 3 or so related problems here. 1 group of people can log in, bit their region is now 0, which is empty. The 2nd group of people can't log in at all, but through use of puppets find that their nation is "0 of 0". The 3rd group of people can log in but find their nation to be "0 of 0". I'm part of group 1 and 2 (This nation is groupd 1 and my main nation is group 2). Also, many people said they have been using auto login. This may have something to do with it except that the nation I'm using now (my puppet) doesn't have auto login, only my main nation. Just some thoughts on whats happening.

Looks like a database error rather than a programming issue ... I had the 0 of 0 thing, logged out and tried to log back in but it wouldn't recognise my password ... and wouldn't send me a new password as I had no email address logged.

So ... looks like we have a fried database ... hope the last back-up isnt too old!! :(

I just IMed my cousin, and he was able to log in fine. So it may just be affecting certain users ( over 1 year old, around a Billion population?)

Only time will tell if this really is the end of the world as we know it.

No, that includes 0 too. You see, 12899 days ago was the UNIX epoch, which is the date represented internally in UNIX computers, like the one which is running NationStates, as 0.

So, yes, all the variables are 0s.

I encountered this glitch while I was logged into a nation that I had just had resurrected, called Neo Assyria.

While answering issues, I went back to the issue screen and found that I had no issues, though I had had five the moment prior, with only three already answered. I went to my nation page, to find everything set to 0, and the other problems reported here. After I logged off, I could not log back on, and I could not request my password to be emailed. I then logged into my main nation, The Resplendent Dawn, to find it ruined too. After that left NS, and came back, to find my auto-login nation, All the Rossiyas, screwed up too.

I reported this on my regional offsite forum. Another member reported that he could not login, but a few minutes later, he was able to log in again. He also mentioned that my nation's name was blacked out, and not a green link any longer. The three nations I mentioned earlier, are the only ones not working of mine. My other nations work, which makes me suspect that this glitch was in effect for a certain small time frame.

I was IP banned for some time for all my failed login attempts into those three nations, which is why I waited half an hour to post this.

im logged in just now .... the entire pacific feeders have disappeared altogether.... as have some UN delegates from user created regions .... very peculiar ....

Of my three glitched nations, 2 were custom titled, a "Reconstructed Ancient Empire" and a "Christian Orthodox Imperium". One was a preset title, a "Holy Empire".

Middle East is fine. Its nations seems to be for the most part unaffected, except for me.

It seems the powers that be know about the problem. Check the big red message at the start of this thread.

I am convinced it affects nations who logged in within a certain time period of less than ten minutes, which occured between 6 and 6:15. If you did not log in within that time, but are affected please so so. That is Eastern Time Zone, (I am in Maryland, US)

I highly doubt that everything has "disappeared" it is likely a glitch that will hopefully be gone soon enough, if it is not, then we will have to continue our lives until such time it is up again.

As long as there are no official announcements by mods or admins, there are
very few things we have to go on:
1. Almost all nation's stats are at "0"
2. All regions have "dissapeared" and become the Region of "0"
3. Some people cannot log into any of their accounts, this seems to be a much smaller number of people than the over all world wide "0" bug.
4. It affects everyone, not just new or old nations, or nations with custom names

I'm sure theres other stuff I fogot, please add it on, but slowly build up the list. :cool:

Now all of my nations are in the group with wrong password. Even the one that had 0 in region 0.

I sure hope they can fix this.

so it's not related to population, pre-designed name, how long you've had your nation, region... I mean the other things it could be related to are even more farfetched. like what type of government you have, but I'm sure that that varies more than anything else. have we made any progress yet?

The governments were reset as part of the glitch.

so far that's the only thing that all of the nations have in common, and no one has contradicted otherwise. but I'm still looking and I'll post if I find that that one's out

I bet this doesn't happen in the real world.........Canada become's 0 of 0 along with the US and Mexico and North America turns into 0.....

This '0' nation is spooky.

There is no government in the normal sense the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals appears to have no policy direction whatsoever

Siage Dragon wasn't Inoffensive Centrist Democracies and Donut to the Saige was a Father Knows Best State last time I checked.

The majority of nations seem to be left, so it's only a small fraction of all the total nations

I was kinda bummed out when it wouldn't let me refound The North Pacific.

I really have to agree with the sit tight thing. It doesn't make any sense to get annoyed with an internet game for being glitchy, or with the people who are trying to fix it. If speculation keeps you happy, keep on speculating, but it seems more likely that this is just an error throughout the entire game.

If you are referring to the governments, one of mine was Corrupt Dictatorship, another Father Knows Best State, and the other I can't remember, but something else.

They all became Inoffensive..., after the glitch.

There could be international computer virus' or glitches, its quite realistic, but I don't think thats what anyone was thinking of...


The "0" region is, in essense, nothing, we still are technically in our real regions, but our stats register us as being in that region, but as you can see, it says what number you are in your region for whatever, since there are no nations in "0" this cannot be.

Its not as serious as it seems, our regions are there, we just can't see them or get to them.

The timezone thing sorta makes sense, but I'm thinking this just hit random nations. And according to the bbig red letters at the start of this post I'm thinking its just a programming error, like Y2K except that it is actually happenning.

Of course, its just like a virus(though its not) spreading through the nations. This means one would just have to find the source and stop it, then hopefully at the update, everything will be repaired.

Otherwise, its going to be a long couple of days (or even weeks) after this is over. I wish we could somehow help out the mods if it comes to that, though.

I have 8 nations all under 300million, 2 were centrist before the update, one was a liberal state and the rest were father knows best, and dictatorships, my main nation is fine still in it's main region, as are 4 of my puppets, the other 3 nations are all in the region "0" but I can log into and re-log into all of them, this frankly is kinda creeping me out, but like it was said earlier all of our nations and regions still exist, because the region "0" and the nations 0 of 0 can simply not exist thus every thing is still the same, I use FireFox and my auto-log in nation is one of my nations that hasn't been affected, if this is a server/game probelm we'll have to probably wait till after the update as all of the server techies and Game mods are in the UK and a sleep (As far as I know), and it'll take some time to fis the problem.

Second time something has happened in less then a week, wow the servers must be getting overloaded.

We KNOW about the problem.
We are doing everything in our power to resolve the issues.
This is going to take the site Admins some time.
You'll be glad to know that both

Now please cut it out with the threats and crying. Lots of people got affected, and we're going to do what we must to get it fixed. More than that I cannot tell you, because you now know EVERYTHING that I know.

Maybe it has to do with location in the real world. I'm from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I noticed another person from Manitoba....

And I'm from Calgary, but all my nations seem fine.

I was playing around a bit, and I've noticed the following:

It is possible to log into nations in feeder regions.
It is possible to move nations out of feeder regions.
It is possible to move nations into feeder regions, but the URL must be manually manipulated to specify the region name - the link does not work.
If you are in a feeder region, you can see one line of the Regional Happenings therein (I think, not sure about this one). If you are not in a feeder region, you cannot see any Regional Happenings therein.
If you move in and out of a feeder region, you get something looking like this:
# Seconds ago: The Liberal Unitary Republic of Goobergunchia III arrived from .

# 6 minutes ago: The Liberal Unitary Republic of Goobergunchia III departed this region for

IMO, this is a good time for us to express our support and patience towards the Mods, and give them a little encouragement. Naturally we're all a bit frustrated because we can't play, and we're worried about our nations and regions, but getting in the Mods' faces won't help them fix it.

When a nation is created, it goes into a region called "0", which is blank. There's no UN report, and when you post a message to the CHQ, it disappears after you refresh the region page.

I've never seen the deletion of an entire region, but isn't there a chance that this might also delete the nations within the region?


If they do try this, we'd probably all end up in the RR, or deleted. Its a last resort risk, and probably won't come to that.

I have faith in you guys (mods) to fix this, right now, we're just discussing what could have happened and such, but please everyone, no more need to complain. :(

Are there any other loopholes people have found? I just hope that when people do locate areas to get away from the zero, they don't flood these areas to badly...

Earlier today (26/27 April 2005) our server experienced some data corruption, and the game is offline while we fix this. The fix will probably require restoring from a backup, which was taken approximately 20 hours ago. This process is likely to take a few hours.

Restoring from backup means, unfortunately, that all nations and regions will lose any changes made in the last 20 hours.

Any status updates will be posted to this page. Thank you for your patience.

Earlier today (26/27 April 2005) our server experienced some data corruption, and the game is offline while we fix this. The fix will probably require restoring from a backup, which was taken approximately 20 hours ago. This process is likely to take a few hours.

Restoring from backup means, unfortunately, that all nations and regions will lose any changes made in the last 20 hours.

What about nations that were deleted by MODS. There is a group of nations controlled by Orland who recently were involved in the griefing of an entire region. Does this mean the deletion is nullified?

pretty much anything done since the last major system save will be deleted. like whenever your computer goes wonky and you have to restore it to a different time, be it yesterday or 3 weeks ago. so no matter what's been going on since then it'll be erased.. and it'll just have to be done all over again. just an annoyance for us I guess

I'd actually like to thank whomever created the note on the main game page. I've been busy for hours and was hoping to recreate on NationStates and saw what I sincerely feel was a very well written and informative note!

I believe if I hadn't of seen the note, I'd have been a bit confused. Thankfully it was there, along with a link to the forums.

The Admins have done an excellent job, and it is appreciated. I hope that we'll all be back on-line soon. :) If not, getting a bit of fresh air sounds like a great idea.

When this is fixed, the last twenty hours will not have happened. At least they won't be on record.

The Great Disk Space Disaster of 2005

Today our server ran out of disk space. Some servers, confronted with this situation, would collapse in a screaming heap, but not ours. Oh no! Instead it sucked it up and kept on running. Of course, it couldn't save anything, so almost every nation and region it touched got deleted or corrupted, but still, you have to admire its spirit.

Here's what happened: we realized (a) that terrible, terrible things were happening to the game, (b) this was because we'd run out of disk space, and (c) yes, we really should have caught this earlier. Fortunately, we had a complete backup from earlier in the day, so we took down the game and began restoring.

Here's what this means: if you did anything in the 20 hours before the game went down, it's been undone. Legislation passed, telegrams sent, endorsements granted or regional movement: none of it really happened.

Nations deleted in the last 20 hours will be back. (Although if they were deleted by mods, you can bet they'll be re-deleted pretty quick.) Nations created in the last 20 hours have vanished. You can re-create them, but unfortunately I suspect we'll run into some forum account wackiness, because the forum itself is not being reset. If you have problems, please see the Known Problems page.

Sorry for this, and thanks for your patience.
We'll be back shortly. Backup is complete, cleanup is underway.

You missed a lot. I took snapshots everywhere...

I just want to add my thanks to everyone else's expressions of appreciation. I know there's going to be a fair amount of tidying up, catching up with things that already were done, re-ejecting cheats from the UN, re-killing griefers or whatever, but it's been relatively painless.
