Appropriate place for nation surveys?

Hello,

I am preparing the background info for a UN Free Trade resolution, but I wanted to collect some data on NationStates RPed domestic laws before going straight to UN members (I'm going to try to see if there is a UN vs. non-UN difference).

I posted a poll asking players about their nation's "protective tariffs on alcohol" in the NationStates forum:
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=412456

I wasn't sure if that belonged in NationStates or perhaps General (and if a moderator has a strong opinion, fell free to move it to the appropriate location). I actually hope to do a series of these sorts of polls. My long term goal is to take the hypothetical edge off UN debates by providing some solid threads on specific subject matters that UN players can point to and say, "See smallpox do exist in NationStates!" without having to rely on real-world references.

Thanks,
-M

I would think NationStates is fine. International Incidents is another place to put it, however, now that you have your thread up in Nation States don't post in I.I. Regardless, I think you're fine.

I'm actually thinking of doing something similar to what Mikitivity has done, but more involed in regards to the choice politics of national accounts from a set that I'd provide. I was thinking of putting my survey ( once I devise all the content ) on Gameplay Forum.

So need-less to say, I'd be interested in Moderator opinion on what Mikitivity has raised, since we both seem to be gunning for the NS pop at large rather then just a segment.

I'm happy having it where-ever the moderators feel appropriate, but I honestly plan on exploring "alcohol", "coastlines", "air quality", and a series of other ideas over the next year via surveys. With that in mind, if there are existing surveys I'd be interested in archiving them (copying the links on an easy to find site).

Although my interest is in feeling the "pulse" of NationStates (which does kinda sound like a Gameplay thing) in order to tie UN debate into the other forums, I think the information will be just as valuable to II and NS RPing and possibly things like Wiki. :)

Agreed. I'd say you were correct about II or N.S. I'm actually thinking NS would be a good spot for mine too now, since its an R.P. based concept, in so far as where the stimulus data I'm going to be providing is originally taken from.

Admittedly my game-view is UN-centrict, but do people think it would be usefuly to start archiving these surveys?

My opinion is that once a survey hits the 100 reply mark it *might* begin to get meaningful. With my prior surveys, I telegrammed some delegates and posted in the feeders (politically neutral) and then a few conservative and liberal regional forums fishing for higher numbers of replies. (Afterall, if I want to cite the survey it stands to provide more accurate info if it is a wide net.) :)

In my rather unofficial opinion, anything involving RP should go in the NationStates forum. However, if you're asking anything involving national statistics, that should go in the Gameplay forum.

How about roleplayed statistics (as in laws or stats that aren't game generated or might even contradict them)?
