I'm sure you're getting a lot of complaints regarding the situation, but is there anything you might be able to let the general public know?

Yes, the game is down. There is already a thread in Technical about it.

The problem; the server upon which the game resides has crashed. Furthermore, it is currently the middle of the night or something in Britain. This means that the Jolt staff aren't awake to reboot it.

So; you'll just have to wait. Sorry about that, but there's nothing I can do.

That's better than nothing. Thank you for the re-post.

But it can be fixed, like they won't loose any information right?

But it can be fixed, like they won't loose any information right?I would assume that nothing will be lost. The server is just shut down right now. It's like if your computer shut down, nothing would be lost, right?
The only things that would be lost were changes that were made but not submitted right before the server crashed.
BTW, why don't they have one of those little UPS boxes that also automatically restarts the server when it crashes?

Maybe they got sick of hosting NS for free and shut her down?

There's nothing wrong with the information. Your nation will be just fine. The error we're getting most likely means the server is just sitting there blinking.

Some bright boy will come in Saturday morning, press a button, and 30 seconds later all will be well.

Ah, wasn't sure what a server crash entailed.

Couldn't they just delete a few Delegacy flags? In a couple large, say Feeder regions?

UPS protects against power outages, not software crashes. Something like this could be caused by something as dopey as someone not ejecting a floppy disk from the drive. It would just sit there like a dumbass until somebody pulls the disk and flips the switch.

err.. jolt isn't awake to reboot it...? what kind of datacenter is that without techs monitoring it 24/7?

One of Fark.com's servers are down as well... coincidence? I think not! Why the shroud of mystery about what is happening with the NS server right now? Is it finally making it's transformation into the ultimate alien beast that will kill us all? or is that one scheduled for next week?

People do have a right to sleep you know. Be nice to them alright they host for free and they do a fantastic job, especially with the forums. I remember when the forums crashed hourly now they go done once a day for like 5 minutes and then come right back or they go down once a week. It's worth it for me!

And yes it's 5:08a in the UK right now so let them have a good night sleep and stop being such a greedy, self-important, pain in the butt! You can go 24 hours without logging in, you won't have a heart attack or a stroke!

Personally, I wouldn't be hosted at a datacenter without 24 hour monitoring, even for free. My host is in florida, and was in the datacenter as the hurricanes were going through. dedication.. i don't really care about logging into ns, i rarely even log in anymore.

oh and i too remember the forums crashing every hour, you aren't much of an older nation than me.

Indeed so are they doing that anymore? No. So take what you have and like it. There isn't a valid or viable complaint about Jolt that holds ANY WEIGHT to what the situation was like before hand.

I heard Drew knocked over a keg in the server room.

Seeing how this started afternoon-early evening US time, I hope they are off in a pub tying one on.

When nationstates.net is back up, we will see how well British techies operate with a hang-over.

What I find interesting is that while nationstates.net is down, the Jolt forums haven't logged me out after sitting around w/o input for hours as they normaly do after what-- 20, 30 minutes?.

Grr, I was trying to use my RP puppet and it kept logging me out, which it normally takes a long time to do. it was annoying cause I lost the last paragraph of my RP and had to retype it.
Grr.
